3Here's how to make this thing work!!
By R. Armstrong
i've owned a couple of these (not through amazon) and they do work, especially with cords 100' or less and not greater than 16g. I am writing this to help those who have or are looking to purchase one of these. this tip will make this a useful "tool" AND save you half the time and hassle.

rather than winding this thing end to end, unroll the cord and fold it once. the male and female ends should now be together. at the opposite end is the middle of the cord. take some plastic zip ties (3 or 4 minimum) and zip tie the middle of the cord to the cord wheel. now when you roll the cord, you are rolling both ends in at the same time. i roll with one hand and use the other to feed the incoming cord so they stay side by side and feed it evenly over the center hub of the reel. now both male and female ends are ALWAYS visible and accessible. when you need cord, put it 1/2 way between the wall outlet and the jobsie and unfeed both ends at once. way easier to show someone than to type, hopefully you get the idea!

5Works just fine for 100' 12/3 outdoor extension cord
By Bob Tobias
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1XCWQQBQ5YMD2 I used the "wind from center" method mentioned by another reviewer and was able to easily and quickly wind my my Coleman Cable 02589 12/3 Vinyl Outdoor Extension Cord with Lighted End, 100-Foot. (See the attached video for details.)

Other than that, there's not too much to be said. You spend your < $15 and get something that will make your long extension cord much easier to use.

If I ever buy more long extension cords I'll certainly get more of these as well.

OK, there is more to say... How I got 100' of extension cord onto this reel. What I did was to walk the cord out, so it was completely extended and then walk one end back to the other. That gets the plug and socket at one end and the middle at the other. I put a couple Cables to Go 43036 Cable Ties - 100 Pack (Black) (not these exactly but something I had on hand that is the same thing) at the middle to make a ring and put that ring onto the hook on the reel. (If you don't have any cable ties you might still be able to just hook the cord middle in the reel hook and wind it up that way.) Then when I wound up the cord it pulled the middle in first and the two ends last.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

The cord I'm using is the Coleman Cable 02589 12/3 Vinyl Outdoor Extension Cord with Lighted End, 100-Foot which is probably a little thicker than most but maybe not as thick as some.

5Works great for the price - Different modification for singly winding
By Todd Pravata
Some other reviewers suggest doubly winding the cord to allow for partially unreeling. I've not tried that, but seems like it would work. Not sure how easy it is to reel that doubled cord though.

Others suggest drilling a hole in the spindle and passing the female end through the hole. This will work, but if you have any length of the cord sticking out, it's going to fly around as you try to wind the cord.

If you want to singly wind the cord without the free end flying around, then you can make a modification that stores the free male end on the outside of the spool hub. To do this you simply have to notch 4 of the 5 hub splines. This is fairly easy to do with a sharp utility knife and needle nose pliers. Then you can clip the male plug into one of the holes in the hub. See my customer photos for the details.

As you unwind, the free end will stay out of the way. After unwinding the amount that you need, just free up the male end from the hub and plug it in the outlet. To reel in, just store the male end on the hub and reel it in. The free end stays completely out of the way.

I have a 50' cord wound on this reel and it's sturdy enough for that much cord. Bought mine at Home Depot and I've used it often in the many years that I've had it. It's held up great. Yeah, it's plastic, but sturdy enough. Nothing has broken or fallen off of mine.

Giving it 5 stars because, for the price and with the modification I suggest, it's does a great job.

I thought that the case would look exactly like the picture, but I thought wrong. They print the image on the case so it looks really crappy, there is not even any glitter as it appears in the picture displayed(thats probably the worst part)! I am embarrassed to use this case therefore I don't use it. Don't waste your money on this!

5Great 2-way radios!
By Vaughn
IMPRESSION BASED ON EXPERIENCE:
This is my second pair of Motorola 2-Way radios. I have tried other bands like Midland and been very disappointed, but Motorola has never let me down. I needed two extra radios for a fishing trip to Colorado so that my father, my brother, my son and I could stay in touch. I was amazed at how good these radios did in the mountains. At one point I was over three miles away from my father on the other side of a mountain and we could still talk clearly. Now I know 3 miles in not as far as the 23 miles range that is claimed these radios can reach, but if you know anything about how these radios transmit, then you know that for it to transmit clearly through 3 miles of solid mountain is close to a miracle. I have a pair of Midland G-300 Two Way Radios that claim a 10 mild range that cannot even reach 1/2 a mile through forest on straight level ground. I was also impressed with the battery life. Even after a long day of heavy use these units had plenty of power left. One was left on over night after being used all day and it still had power the next day.

Since I want this review to be helpful to people people wanting to buy these, I want to make something clear. The range claim that any 2-way radio manufacturer makes, is base on optimum conditions with no structural or atmospheric interference. In real life you can never expect to get those kinds of ranges out of any unit. Due to the curvature of the earth I would not expect that any radio could reach farther then 10 miles under normal conditions unless each radio is located in an elevated position with a valley in between, such as on either side of the Grand Canyon. So when you buy a 2-way radio, don't pay much attention to the range claims that are made. Just make sure that they will do what you need them to and don't expect a miracle that deifies the laws of physics.

PROS:
Motorola quality, great range and battery life.

CONS:
None that I can find.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
If you are looking for a good pair of 2-way radios for hiking, camping, fishing or similar, look no farther. If you are looking for 2-way radios for some sort of specialized professional use or something else these may or may not be what you are looking for.

3A good budget buy, but you're better off spending the extra $20 for the MR355s.
By M. Carlos III
I bought 2 pair of these radios as well as 3 pair of the MR355s. They cost $20 less, so I could get about 3 pair of these for 2 pair of the MR355s. I distributed them to my supervisors, vehicle operators and field engineers in our open area shipyard.

The reception is fine, although you do notice the clearer sound and slightly longer range of the MR355s (I'm talking only a couple hundred yards longer).

The unit uses the supplied NiMH battery pack or 3 AAA's. Of course, AA's batteries like the ones used in the MR355 would have more power and last longer, but then, the MR355 has more features (like vibrate and an LED flashlight) that use up more power. Anyway, I knew the compromises when I got the units.

However, I wasn't ready for the MH230 to show 2 bars on the battery icon and yet the display wasn't functioning clearly. Some of the LCD lines were very faint or could only be seen at an extreme angle. For instance, the 8 looked like a 9 bcs the left lower LCD bar wouldn't light up. After trying out the features, I fully charged the battery. Wouldn't you know it, at full charge, all the LCD's work. At partial charge (or discharge, as you like it) some of the LCD bars would fade out. This happened with all 4 MH230 radios and didn't happen with any of the MR355s, even as the more expensive radio's would run out of juice. NOTE to Giant Electronics, fix this issue! You're ruining Motorola's rep.

Anyway, we use the MH230 in thick steel crane and payloader cabins, talking to people in the office 700 yards away with a couple 30 foot tall cargo ships and a few dozen welders doing their thing in between. The sound is mostly clear and everyone gets heard. The users wish they had the PTT earbuds that come with the more expensive units, but hey, you get the bright yellow ones, be happy!

The guys who crawl around inside the steel hulls get the MR355s with the PTT, vibra and lights. They're happy too.

4 stars for the unit performance, minus 1 star bcs of the LCD problems at half batt.

Can't complain I'm not getting the 23 mile range, or they would owe me stars. BTW, many 25 Watt vehicle or base station radios with 36 inch antennas won't get 23 miles, so don't expect these reach that far.

5Good Product
By Todd M Wochok
I purchased these walkies so our group of 6 could keep in touch during a 7 day cruise. They did not dissapoint. We never had any problems with interference or static. One day, we were off the ship, about 6 miles from port and the walkies actually worked getting in touch with our group still on the ship! We were impressed! We look forward to using them for this upcoming ski season

5Excellent Knife Set
By Branden Byers
I had the chance to try cutting with the Mercer's chef knife at a local kitchen store. Compared to the Wüstof and Henckels knives, these Mercer knives are heftier with a bulkier hand grip. At first I did not like the bulkiness of the grip however I did like the weight difference. I would have purchased the knives locally, but the shop was unable to order this knife block set.

Now that I have been using these knives quiet a bit over the past week, it was definitely worth the purchase. I don't even notice the bulkier hand grip now (and it is only bulky by comparison to Wüstof and Henckels). It is my understanding that these knives are commonly used by culinary students and I can understand why. This is a professional product for nearly half the price of other knives in this competition range. In order to keep the blades sharp, I also purchased the Mercer Genesis Collection 10-Inch Honing Steel.

One thing to be aware of with the glass knife block is that the knives are removed by pulling straight up. Of course this is obvious, but unlike other angled knife block sets, cabinet clearance may be an issue for some kitchens. I had not thought of this when originally ordering and at first was disappointed when I thought it would not be possible to store these knives on the counter under cabinetry. However, this is a very sturdy steel and glass knife block. I soon realized the block does not slide when tipped. So whenever I need to remove or return a knife to the block I simply lean it forward without trouble.

Regarding another reviewer's issue with the staining of the bread knife: I have cut bread numerous times so far and have had no issue with staining. I have also used it to cut tomatoes. As for the other knives, I have cut chicken, strawberries, peppers, carrots, garlic, etc. with no issue. I do hand wash the knives directly after use as recommended by the manufacturer.

Overall, I am very pleased with this set.

5Excellent Quality Knife Set
By N. Schmidt
I buy A LOT on Amazon, and have never bothered to write a review. I just can't find the time with two small children. I was prompted however to write a review on this Mercer Knife set. I wanted to send my father a nice knife set for the holidays. I was hesitant to buy an item like this online because I could not physically check the quality. I read a number of reviews for different sets and decided on this as he has a rather small space to work with in the kitchen, and did not want a big hulking block full of unnecessary knifes he would barely use.

I took a chance and he called after it arrived to thank me and told me they were excellent quality, that he loved the space saving storage vessel. He also liked the fact he could easily see which knife he was needing to pull to use thanks to the translucent glass.

I was relieved he was very happy with his gift. It wasn't until I came to visit him this week that I remembered I gifted them. I went to make dinner and used the knifes. I absolutely love these knifes. I am so impressed I am picking a set up for myself. I paid around $150 for them for my Dad, and they are at $129 right now- and with Prime that is a steal. I am not a chef, but do enjoy my time in the kitchen. I have a couple of really nice preparation knifes but these will round out my set.

On a side note while here I was able to easily unscrew the vessel using my fingers to slide the glass out and clean it. It slides right back in and you just screw it back tight with the flat topped stainless screws atop each column. They are large enough for anyone with hand dexterity issues to grab hold of and unscrew.

5It delivers for travel
By Vicente Rodriguez
I have had this for 2 weeks, and have tested over and over...it has given me at least a day and a half charge while actively using my iPhone. It is big, but still fits in your pocket easily. If your goal is battery life for a long trip, this is the perfect fit. Works well with my iPhone 5 with iOS 7.

4Great charging options
By S. Motamedi
My favorite part about this case is that it's 4200mah. I have 3 other cases, 2 are 2400 and one is 2000. They're just simply not enough (I'm an active user). I will go through about 300% of battery in any given day, so I need to always have access to a charging cable/case.

This case gave me about 121% charge, but the first 81% was while I was on the phone constantly (bluetooth talking, watching videos, checking emails, downloading attachments, listening to music, etc. The phone was not put to sleep for even 1 minute during this charge).
Thus, I feel that 81% charge WHILE being constantly used is phenomenal. It would've easily charged to 100% had I not been using it constantly.

This case also has a USB Out, so in case you don't have an iPhone 5 (or your friend doesn't), as long as the cable for that device is present, you can charge it using this case. It essentially turns it into a battery pack this way, very useful (I used it to charge my Kindle).

My BIGGEST flaw with this case is it takes FOREVER to recharge. a good 9 hours to get to 100% after being completely drained. That's excessive. If they could somehow get it down to ~5 hours, that would be golden.

It can also be charged using your existing Lightening cable (which is great, cause then I Don't need to carry an extra micro usb cable with me).

I definitely recommend it. I would be 5 stars if it could charge itself quicker.

5Works with ios7 and iPhone 5s
By Stormy
There are a lot of inexpensive iphone charging cases out there that do not work with ios7. I know because I have returned 3 of them. However, this case works just fine with ios7 and the iPhone 5s. I also like the way it easily attaches to the iPhone. There is no top piece to fumble with putting on like on Mophie products. I like the simple slide-in design. The other great feature of this product is that it charges with the iPhone lightning charger. This seems like a no-brainer for a product design, but it is really hard to find. Even the $100 versions don't do this.

So far, I highly recommend this product. As of yet, I can't comment on its longevity or how many hours it will add to the life of an iPhone charge. I will post a follow up when I have had a chance to use it more than once. I just thought y'all would like to know that this definitely works with ios7.

1Two thumbs DOWN to the surge protector and its "warranty"!
By T. Rosenbalm
I had a power surge in my house. The only thing items that got damaged were the ones on this surge protector. It made loud pops, smoked, and arced until I unplugged it. I called file a claim but the policy is such that

1) you only get reimbursed for the value you could resell your damaged products before the damage occurred
2) you have to go to a repair store (lugging your tv and electronics) and pay the repair store to give you a quote ($40 fee) just to have a chance at a refund
3) you have to pay to mail back your surge protector
4) Belkin may request you to mail your damaged devices for them to check at your own cost (seriously, mail my dead tv?!?)

After multiple phone calls with Belkin (whose customer service is polite), I've come to the following conclusions. This is a scam. The $5 surge protectors did their job. My laptops were fine. The expensive surge protector made a mess, let my equipment get toasted and resulted in a lot of hassle that didn't even help me get a replacement tv.

I wouldn't recommend this to an enemy!

5lightning strikes
By wogan
There are a lot of reviews on this product, but I had to add mine. After lightning struck a tree next to our house, our neighbors suffered several appliance failures, including a blown TV. Ours, including our computer survived (plugged into one of these). More amazingly, the outlet this was plugged into blew out of the wall, frying the protector, the TV lost its color for 3 days, but then popped back in and we are still using it. Our electrician says, he's never seen anything like it, but he's recommending this surge protector now.

4Met most of my needs and expectations
By A. Dent
Brief evaluation
----------------
This surge protector allows for up to 8 devices, including 4 'wide' DC adapters to be plugged in. It will protect them against power surges and, in addition, it can protect one phone line (RJ-11) and one coax wire if they are connected to pass through the Belkin surge protector.

My personal experience does validate the claims the manufacturer makes for the features that I am using and I can verify at this time. So far, I am happy and, in my opinion and based on its meeting real needs, good design, features and low price I recommend it as (in my view) one of the better it its class.

Soon after purchasing this unit I learned that for very little extra I could get and, in fact, I purchased the Belkin 12-Outlet Home/Office Surge Protector with Phone/Ethernet/Coaxial Protection and Extended Cord which has 4 extra outlets and comes with a true RJ-45 Ethernet support.

More details
------------
The following are noteworthy, in my view.

Positives:

+ TRUE 8-outlet capacity. Unlike the traditional surge-protected power strips where one beefy AC adapter would cover 2 slots, Belkin's device truly accommodates 4 AC adapters and allows for 4 more plugs to fit in.
+ 'Protected' green light (must be on) provides assurance that the surge protector is operational. When the green light stays off it usually means that the surge protector 'expired' while protecting your device from a power surge and it must be replaced ASAP. [The Belkin warranty promises a free replacement under its warranty terms if you meet the requirements and, it seems, you pay for shipping the damaged unit to Belkin and, possibly, the new unit to you. That's likely to add up to the price of buying a new unit from Amazon and, if you factor in the hassle, probably not worth it.]
+ 'Not grounded' red light (must be off) will warn you when there's something wrong. Belkin's warranty won't apply if the light was on when your devices got fried. I don't know if for a fact but I assume they have a way of telling if that was the case.
+ 10 ft. long chord. This is very important to me and it was one of the criteria that had to be met when I ordered this item.
+ 90 degree plug allows you to easily plug it into a busy 4-plugs wall outlet.
+ Clip for cable management. I find it useful.
+ Thin (one inch) and flat shape. Stands well on a table or on the floor.
+ Telephone and coax cable pass through for surge protection. I don't use these but I'm surprised that something this inexpensive has them.

[NOTE: The 'phone' jacks are RJ-11 (phone), not RJ-45 (Ethernet). I heard of installations where RJ-11 connectors are used for Ethernet but that is not the norm.]

Negatives:

- Other than encouraging the unrealistic expectation that Belkin would pay you big $$$ on connected equipment warranty, I can't think of anything bad.

Warranty
--------
On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is a worthless warranty and 10 is one that's unbelievably generous, Belkin's should be somewhere around 2 or 3 - 95% of all warranties on devices this cheap are likely to be a 1.

They do promise to replace the item if it sacrifices itself while protecting your devices for as long as you can prove that you didn't do anything stupid, you have a purchase receipt and you ship the damaged item to Belkin at your own expense. It's not clear if they will charge you for shipping you back a new item. This may or may not be something worth pursuing. My impression is that you are not going to save a lot of money to get a 'free' replacement from Belkin and you are likely to waste a lot of time in the process. I'd probably buy myself a new one if the one I have now stopped working but it's good to know that they do have a 'lifetime' warranty. By 'lifetime' they mean the natural life of the product but 'natural life' is not precisely defined.

As far as being reimbursed for damage to devices that this surge protector was expected to protect, my impression is that you are not likely to get much if anything unless you can afford a lawyer and you are willing to sue. You have to meet a long series of requirements that are expressed in several paragraphs of techno-legalese.

Rating
------
I will have to repeat myself stating that, in my view, this is one of the better surge protectors in its class. It loses one star for the 'Ethernet' confusion. I could have and maybe I should have removed one more star from the over-hyped warranty statement printed on the box but... as sad as it is, everybody does it and Belkin's warranty is better than most so, I am awarding 4 stars on an item that inexpensively addressed real issues I had with protecting several devices clustered in a corner of my basement.

________________________________________________________
Disclaimer:
I would call myself the opposite of a Belkin shill. After reading the news stories concerning some Belkin employees' attempts at promoting their wares at this site via employee-written reviews and other unethical practices I tended to stay away from the Belkin brand. In this instance, the price and the promised features were hard to resist and, to my surprise, I am very happy with my purchase.

5Great Protection, Great Design, Great Price!
By Martin A Hogan
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1CZE10G46L0F2 Case weighs less than one pound with iPad mini.

All functional holes are available for camera, microphone, speakers, charging up/down volume and on/off switch.

Case cover with iPad mini is removable when you don't need a keyboard. Still has high protection.

Enclosed case is water-resistant, not waterproof, but incredible well designed with rubber surrounding your iPad mini the entire perimeter. Not water-resistant when opened. Heavily reinforced with hard and soft rubber for those accidentally bounces or drops.

Charges in about 2 hours. Bluetooth connection takes about one minute and you never have to Bluetooth it again.

Keyboard is 1.85 X larger than that on the iPad mini (3-1/2" X 7-1/2") Perfect for airplane tables. View screen is 180 degrees or 90 degrees.

Check out these qualities and the price against ANY other iPad mini protective case. Great even without the keyboard!

3Tiny keyboard not so bad. Excellent Protection
By Randy Johnson
I am really surprised with this case. I thought the the ruggedness would make it too bulky and it does somewhat. It just doesn't bother me so much. I actually appreciate the soft feel of the plastic or rubber on the case and I really like it on the detachable case that holds the Mini. It actually makes holding the Mini feel "good". The detachable case is a big plus. The case is slash proof, but I won't be testing that.

It does smell and if you have a strong sense of smell it may bother you, but it should disappear over time.

I'm actually surprised with the keyboard. I was able to do some touch typing on it as long as I didn't go too fast. They keyboard is cramped but those with small hands should manage ok. I have average size hands and typing on it wasn't so bad. I definitely wouldn't want to write anymore than a couple of paragraphs on it if I didn't have to.

If you have an iPad Mini and you're prone to dropping it, get this case. The part that covers just the iPad Mini is worth the price alone.

Edit: July 3, 2013
The screen protector seems to scratch easily. I have a little scratch in the middle and it's kind of distracting. One star taken away. :-/

5Better than Kensington
By Amazon Customer
Okay. So I am becoming not only a bluetooth headset junkie, but also an IPad accessory/folio/keyboard junkie...

Initially, I bought the Kensington Keyboard folio, and found that as time went on, preferred to have the IPad in its own case without the need for the keyboard all of the time...plus didn't like the "bulky" feel of the device...so thought I would try something different.

Pros: This is a small keyboard, and it is pretty neat in that you slide the IPad behind the keyboard. This protects your IPad, but is also a very neat small bundle. As my daughter says, all the kids in her school are envious.

The keys are quite responsive, and having used standard keyboards on PCs etc, I enjoy the "punch and click" of a sturdy key. This satisfies me in that regard. When I used the Kensington, never did get the "feel" of it, as it is a softer kind of design. Some people may like that, but if you want to "feel" like you are typing, this fits the bill.

It charges quite easily with LED light indicator on the side. Seems to hold the charge very well. What I noticed right off the bat is that when I turn ON the keyboard, my IPad picks it up right away. Don't know why, but the Kensington seemed to get lost and I would have to go into settings and find it again...maybe that is just a bug. But, I don't have that problem with this keyboard.

Overall, the size is nice and compact, and it comes with a small neoprene type sleeve that you can then put the combo IPad/Keyboard into for storage. The longer I have my IPad the more I realize I like to keep things compact and try to minimize the size of the accessories.

CONS: Well, the only real complaint I have is that you really can't use this in your lap. The way the device works, is that you prop the Ipad into the slot and it is held up at a comfortable viewing angle. However, if you want to do this in your lap, it will slide all the way through, or partially, and doesn't stay in one position. That being said, when I need to type with the keyboard I am usually in meetings and so this isnt really an issue. But if you want to do this in bed, better get a lap desk.

OVERALL: Decent product at the right price point that gives you the satisfaction of feeling like you are typing again.

What I would like to see in the future: Give me a keyboard like this and make it so that they can somehow "click" together so that I can use it in my lap if I need to. Option for keyboard LED backlighting? or just some form of glow in the dark keys?

4You can use any external hard drive with your Mac....
By Chuck Bittner
TIP: YOU CAN USE ANY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE WITH A MAC AND DON'T NEED A "MAC COMPATIBLE" DRIVE. Amazon has a few cheaper drives if you look around. Be sure to buy the biggest drive you can afford as at some point you will need/want it. Be sure to check your price of the different sizes some are so close as to justify the up charge in price. At the time of writing the 1TBb drive was only $5 more than the 500GB drive so that is a no brainer.

If you're a Mac user setting up or erasing this hard drive up with your computer is super easy follow these steps. I never use software that comes with hard drives I just wipe them & use Time Machine.

1. Plug in the hard drive
2. Open up disk utility found in your applications folder inside the utilities folder
3. Next select the newly plugged in a hard drive and on the right-hand side you should see partition click on that.
4. Then inside that screen on the partition layout drop-down choose how many partitions you'd like to set up. I generally go with one partition and just use folders to organize my files.
5. Then on the right-hand side you can name the partitions and select the format. If you want your hard drive to work with your Mac for doing Time Machine backups (which I highly recommend) choose Mac OS Extended. Sometimes it's good to make two partitions and one using "MS-DOS fat" if you might be transferring files to and from a Windows machine. The reason is Windows machines and Max can read and write to the "MS-DOS fat" format but your files will need to be under 4 GB each as that's the maximum file size it can hold.
6. Then click apply and your Mac will create all the partitions you wanted and you're good to go.

Thanks for reading it is helpful please click the button thanks.

5A great portable drive for new Macs!
By maxmasa31
In ten years, I've owned at least five external hard drives from Western Digital and have never had a problem with any of them. They're reliable, well-made, and priced right. I've never had one die on me and the only reason I've owned so many is that they eventually can't hold enough of my media! To this day, I still use the first 60 GB drive I bought for twice this price!

The WD My Passport is a very compact, lightweight drive perfect for students or professionals. It's not much larger than a deck of standard playing cards and weighs just a bit more. It uses a USB 3.0 interface, which allows for faster file transfer speeds, but you'll need a computer with the right connection.

How can you tell? Basically, if your Mac was purchased before June 2012, it most likely has the slower USB 2.0 ports. All NEW Macs, however, have USB 3.0 ports. If you're not sure, another way to tell is if you look at your USB ports--if it's blue, you're good--if it's white, it's still USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, though, so it'll still work on a USB 2.0 port; you just won't see the speed increase--it'll transfer at USB 2.0 speeds. Also, USB 3.0's theoretical speeds aren't as fast as Apple's ThunderBolt, but it's the cheaper option. Still, it's a huge speed difference over the older USB 2.0 standard. As an example, I transferred a 25 GB video file from my MacPro to the drive in under 5 minutes; my old USB 2.0 drive took 14.

If you're a Mac user, this drive comes formatted in HFS, so it'll work for your right out of the box, no problems. If you're a Windows user, you'll have to reformat it to NTFS (or just buy the regular WD drive, which is usually cheaper and comes formatted for Windows). If you're planning on going between the two platforms, however, you'll need to format it in exFAT using a Windows computer. An exFAT drive will work on any Mac OS running Snow Leopard (10.6.5 ) or later, but you'll need to install a driver for use on Linux. Another final option is to buy a third-party program, like Paragon for Mac, which allows users to write to NTFS volumes, or MacDrive for PC, which mounts HFS volumes.

All the technobabble aside, this is a standard 5400 rpm external hard drive that's great for shuttling around large files, and with the faster USB 3.0 speeds, is great for on-the-go editing of raw video footage in Final Cut on a Macbook Pro. For reliability, price, size, and convenience, it's an easy five stars!

5Essential for the Retina Macbook Pro.
By Sledman
I've had the drive a few weeks and use it almost daily. I purchased a new Macbook Pro Retina and thought I could live with the 256 SSD drive in it. Turns out I was dead wrong. Even with streamlining my apps, not using it to store music and movies I still filled up the drive very quickly. I use this drive for everything, Dropbox,G-drive, movies, music etc. So far works great and the USB 3.0 is fast. Highly recommended. I do have a couple of notes:

1. This is the same as the standard 1T My Passport, only it comes pre-formated for mac (and has the "for mac" writing on it). You can buy and format the standard and it will be the same thing. I got this version because, I like the color and it was $15 cheaper at the time then the standard version and it saves me the 2 minutes of reformatting the drive.

2. It's very small and very light. I have an older My Passport and it's giant compared to this thing. The case is also plastic. Would have been nice to have aluminum for added protection but it seems sturdy. Also the aluminum and black will match your mac perfectly if thats what your going for.

3. After I received it and commuted for a bit I realized I probably should get a case for it. After looking online I decided on the Amazon Basics case. I can report it looks great, functions perfectly and adds the extra protection I was looking for so If I drop my bag I wont have to worry about the drive.

Again, If you need a great drive at a fair price then this is the one.

4External Enclosure for original MacBook Pro Harddrive
By NRDK
I bought this enclosure in order to use it for a SSD upgrade, and following that to store my original harddrive from my mid 2010 MacBook Pro.

The enclosure looks sleek, and is actually metal in a market where there are a lot of brushed plastic. It functions well in OS X despite the claims of wanting Windows only operating systems. Installing a 2.5" SATA drive is easy enough, with just having to push the drive into the connector in the case. From there, it's a matter of securing the drive in the case with 4 large screws, which are a bit hard to get in with the screwdriver provided. After that, there are 4 tiny screws on the outside that are a pain to get in place and screw in with the magnetic screwdriver included, hence the 1 star deduction for the pain of screwing in mini philips screws that are displaced by the magnetic screwdriver included, I ended up using my own screwdriver from a tool kit I have, and it worked much much better. Beyond that, it also comes with a small protective case which fits very snugly over the driver itself but it's a shame there is no room to store the cable in addition to the drive in the case, as I do with my Western Digital Passport external harddrive. Still, all together, not that big of a deal.

Other than the pain of securing the drive together with the tiny screws, this driver works great and is a steal at $20 for a USB 3.0 to SATA aluminum enclosure. I had no issues shelling out the cash for this, as it will keep my original harddrive from my MacBook Pro in a very secure environment for some time, and provide a great backup solution for me.

5It's a great enclosure, much better than the 'slide the drive in from the end' type.
By Levi
This enclosure has a clamshell type design, which means it is made in two equal halves which allow you to securely fasten the two halves of the enclosure together with four screws. A lot of the slightly cheaper 2.5 inch drive enclosures have a small end cap that you screw to the end of the enclosure with two tiny screws, which is much less secure and reliable in my experience. This enclosure is made of metal (not sure if it's steel or something else) and coated in rubber which makes it seem like a high quality piece. It fits together very well, and it seems very strong. It's USB 3.0 for great speed, and backwards compatible with older USB standards. It has a DC barrell jack for external power supply, but it works without that because of the USB cable with two USB plugs on one end. There is a physical power switch, and a nice blue LED light on the end to show power and data transfer status. The screw holes are hidden by two silver plastic stickers which probably won't stand up to being removed and replaced more than once or twice, if you're very careful. once you put the drive into the enclosure, you should leave it in there unless you want to be able to see the screws, which would really take away from the nice look that the enclosure has when its properly assembled. It comes with the screws obviously, as well as a screw driver, and an imitation leather case, which is good for keeping mild dust invasion at bay, but won't offer any other protection. If you plan on dropping your drive on the floor or hiking in the rain with it, you should not rely on the enclosure or its case but, instead, plan on not dropping your drive or going hiking in the rain with it, or get a different enclosure or a Pelican case to keep it in. If you just want a case to keep a notebook drive safe from direct contact and dust and you don't want to spend 60 dollars pick this enclosure over any of the others on amazon in the sub 60 dollar price range.

5WD Passport KILLER! USB 3.0 Speeds + included Y-Cable! Supports 1TB 7200RPM 2.5" HDD.
By Zen
First off i bought a WD Passport and was greatly dissapointed to find out the USB cables that shipped with the External HDD were faulty and couldn't support the power hungry read/write speeds of large files. Also the HDD in the passport is a 5400RPM drive. i felt this was unnacceptable for such a brand name product and at the cost of $90 for a 1TB.

HERE comes the AWESOME!

CONTENTS: (inside package)
-1 manual that explains what to do if your Computer recognizes the Ext.Enclosure but does not see the physical HDD/SSD.
-1 Sabrent HDD enclosure.
>The top and bottom is a MATTE aluminum that is interchangeable, meaning you can place either on top or bottom.
>The PCB has a optional power port, but is not necessary. of course has USB 3.0 female port (the ugly looking flat type)
>The PCB board also has a ON/OFF swtich. LOL.
>LED is a Blue color. Even though its bright, its not the color/intensity that hurts your eyes when you stare directly at it. Great!
-1 Y-cable. Here's whats cool. The male USB 3.0 side that plugs into your laptops/PCs USB 3.0 branches out a USB 2.0 male for
power. Normally some manufacturers do this at the male side USB 3.0 where it plugs into your External Enclosure making the cable shorter and wastes cable overall.
-1 Soft leather pouch to hold your External HDD in. However does not have enough space to hold cable, only the ext.HDD.
-8 Screws total. 4 Chubby screws that hold down your HDD/SSD onto the plastic Silver holder. 4 Thinner screws that hold down the aluminum top and bottom covers onto the plastic Silver holder (2 thin screws per black cover).

BUILD QUALITY -/- INSTALLATION:
-the silver you see in the image is actually plastic sprayed with a silver lacquer that protects it. Is of course hollow.
-The top and bottom black covers are Aluminum coated with a silicone/fuzzy Matte black. When you touch it it feels like a hybrid of metal and rubber. Almost like touching Suede. However gives off a cool feel as it is aluminum.
-Blue LED at front is not like the super strong bright LEDs that hurts your eyes or lights up a dark room.
-the space that holds the SSD/HDD is rather tight. When you first place in your HDD/SSD you have to insert it at a descending 30 degree angle to the SATA connector as you push it in very SLOWLY. Removing is just as easy, gently push out opposite the SATA connector, as it dislodges gently raise it at a 30 degree angle ascending.

SO WHY IS THIS AWESOME?
-I bought the Sabrent Ext.Enclosure for $16 and the HGST 1TB 7200RPM SATA-III 32mb Cache 2.5" HDD for $86. A total whopping price of $102.
However, I get a GUARANTEED USB 3.0 speeds with the well-built Y-cable, built-in On/OFF buttons, a Aluminum ext.HDD enclosure, and a HDD that has a capacity of 1 terabyte and operates with a 7200RPM efficiency.

-Compared to a $72 1TB 5400RPM hard Plastic enclosure with a Defective USB 3.0 cable that WD Customer Service will pretend not acknowledging. See all the horrible reviews about this problem. I myself tried the 2TB not the 1TB WD passport and i lost my data from the defective cables. The data became irreversibly corrupt. I ended up returning the Drive to Amazon for a Refund. THANK YOU AMAZON!

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I highly recommend this if you have 2.5" drives you want to custom build and carry on the go. This Enclosure Supports SSDs. I have used this enclosure to "Initialize", and Format a "New Simple Volume" on a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD.

3Don't trust it
By Christopher Platis
iOttie, I mean you guys no harm as this is definitely a decently built product and I appreciate your excellence in response to customer complaints. Just to let you and other readers know beforehand, I'm not the crazy exception to the crowd who just wants to complain to be heard. I (like most of you) spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to find the best phone holder for my bike. After the positive reviews, I went with this iOttie to hold my brand new iphone 4s. After hitting one bump at ~10-15 mph, my phone flew out. In iOttie's defense, i did NOT have the (nicely) attached rubber band around my phone for this fall, so I suppose you could say this is my fault (even though realistically the rubber band shouldnt be doing the protection, it should just be for peace of mind). My phone somehow survived the fall without a scratch (it is in a thin incase case), so i pedaled on sweating my new purchase all the while. My ride was short, not even 10 miles. In those 10 miles, TWICE did the clip that attaches the phone to the clamp fall out. And YES, i did have it <> all the way in. I just do not trust it. My roads are definitely not as paved as they could be. Im riding a Trek SoHo hybrid bike. After further research, I decided that no iphone holder is secure enough for me--it just doesn't seem worth the stress thinking that it could fall out at any moment. I have requested to return my product but my mother threw away the box it came packaged in. What a stress.

EDIT**: 1 week my initial experience, a representative from iOttie called me and very kindly offered me a replacement product. Great service. My new iOttie is mounted back on my bike, locked in secure, and my phone is wrapped securely with the band. First day riding into work was today and thankfully NO PROBLEMS :). As with any bike mount I suppose there is going to be a bit of a fear (for me atleast) about dropping the phone. This product is definitely a decent product at an unbeatable price. Customer service all the way! Thanks iOttie. I will report back after a week or so to let you know how it goes. Hope my phone never takes a tumble again, otherwise I love being able to check my maps while im on the go!

4Reliable, versatile and trustworthy.
By Alexandre Goncalves
A few months ago I was on the hunt for a device like this. I like going out on my bike riding without a destination in mind and often ended up in areas where I couldn't easily find my way back home. I always had my smartphone on me but the GPS is not as useful when kept in your pocket, I needed to watch the screen as I paddled. Back when I started looking for these, there was only one model available, very bulky, expensive and it got low reviews from users cause phones were flying after hitting minor bumps on the road. The iOttie is cool and affordable, there is nothing better around the web for the same price! It allows you to mount the phone on vertical or horizontal positions, has a firm grip and as a safety precaution, it includes a rubber band (not visible on the picture) that allows for more security against unauthorized flights. I've used twice around the city, hit bumps and potholes without a problem. However, I am not a mountain-biker and have not taken this product for a real off-road experiment, although I believe it will pass this test as long as carefully setup in advance.
The reason why I did not give it 5 stars is that no matter how I mount my nexus one, one of the plastic tabs is always on the way of a button - either the volume control or the home button - and this button gets pressed unintentionally with the vibration from the bike. It takes a few minutes to find the sweet spot, where the button don't get unintentionally activated, but also can't be operated with fingers either. Another missing feature is some sort of hood for rainy days, it could be even sold as a separate accessory. Other than these two minor points, I highly recommend the purchase!

5Great protection. 1/10th of the otterbox price
By Robert Sishe
This case is awesome. It has 2 parts, the purple rubber layer and white hard shell. It fits my S5 5 perfect. It provides adequate protection for my phone at 1/10th of the otterbox price. I only paid 2$ for it. Plus, my phone is pretty and doesn't look like a brick.

5Excellent choice for new Galaxy S5 case
By Moriah
This case is an excellent choice in terms of looks, protection and durability. It doesn't add any weight to the phone at all which is very nice. Protection wise, I think it covers all the angles well. All soft spots are protected with thick silicon. I am sure it will last as long as the phone if not more. I see the only reason to change the cover is to try on new things.
