Let's start by talking about the elephant in the room: This phone case is forty dollars. That is insane. While this case has a lovely graphic (I have the galaxy one) you are paying a good ten dollars more for the privilege of having a cute graphic on your phone with the Speck case.
That said, if you have the coin, this is a great case.
I've always liked the feel of the Speck CandShell cases--they add a nice heft to the phone without a rubberized feel and they don't add a lot of bulk or weight. I feel like my phone is protected but I'm not super bogged down. This case has a nice purple rubber border. I haven't experienced any pilling or dye transfer yet but both have been problems with previous Speck cases when they are in my jeans pockets.
The graphic is gorgeous. It's printed directly on the plastic in some way so the case doesn't have any decals or stickers that will peel or chip. Scratches might be possible after a bad drop but I'm not even sure those would do much damage. Even the Speck name and logo on the back are unobtrusive.
The first day I used this case, my phone fell out of my hands and bounced onto a hardwood floor. But my phone was fine after! So the case works great and it looks great. It's just very, very expensive.

I just received my CandyShell Inked case today after waiting for it to ship for a while when it was on backorder. The graphics are really gorgeous and the case seems very sturdy and durable. I think the graphics will hold up.
However, it does make the phone feel awfully bulky. I understand that it's shock-proof and provides good protection, so I'll keep it, but I probably won't use it every day. The last Speck case I had was the PixelSkin and it was so much thinner and lighter (and also provided great protection for my phone). If you're looking for a low-profile case, you should probably keep looking.

I carry my phone everywhere. I drop my phone. My toddler plays with and drops my phone. I put my phone in my pocket with all manner of things from tissues and napkins to coins. I'm constantly seeking the right case that balances protection with bulk.
This case achieves a great balance! (iPhone 5s) Overall, it's the best case I've had in ages.
First, yes, it's not cheap, but I've spent that same amount on other, name-brand cases and not received nearly as nice or as effective a product.
- Plastic shell with tight rubbery lining - dust and lint actually stay out
- The "points" of the corners (where the phone would hit the ground) have little slices cut out of the plastic so, when dropped, the impact will be dispersed across the softer lining
- The rubbery lining material also forms a tight bezel around the front of the phone, so if you drop the phone face-down, the bezel will take the impact
- The ports are readily available (not blocked or covered) and fit standard rounded cables (I have one lightning cable with a square plastic plug housing instead of an oval one - it doesn't work with this case)
- The buttons are stiff, but easy to get used to
- The mute slider (that slider above the volume buttons) is open rather than under the case (I prefer this)
- The candy shell slides in and out of my pocket easily
- Doesn't add too much bulk or weight to the phone (for me - the previous front-runner for protective cases was the OtterBox Defender)
- I love the graphics on the purple one I got and it doesn't look like every other iPhone on the table
- ETA: I've been using it non-stop for 2 weeks and the rubbery bits aren't discoloring or showing dirt!
This case doesn't offer moisture protection or a screen cover. Moisture protection would have required more bulk but a screen cover would have been nice.
