4You can use any external hard drive with your Mac....
By Chuck Bittner
TIP: YOU CAN USE ANY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE WITH A MAC AND DON'T NEED A "MAC COMPATIBLE" DRIVE. Amazon has a few cheaper drives if you look around. Be sure to buy the biggest drive you can afford as at some point you will need/want it. Be sure to check your price of the different sizes some are so close as to justify the up charge in price. At the time of writing the 1TBb drive was only $5 more than the 500GB drive so that is a no brainer.

If you're a Mac user setting up or erasing this hard drive up with your computer is super easy follow these steps. I never use software that comes with hard drives I just wipe them & use Time Machine.

1. Plug in the hard drive
2. Open up disk utility found in your applications folder inside the utilities folder
3. Next select the newly plugged in a hard drive and on the right-hand side you should see partition click on that.
4. Then inside that screen on the partition layout drop-down choose how many partitions you'd like to set up. I generally go with one partition and just use folders to organize my files.
5. Then on the right-hand side you can name the partitions and select the format. If you want your hard drive to work with your Mac for doing Time Machine backups (which I highly recommend) choose Mac OS Extended. Sometimes it's good to make two partitions and one using "MS-DOS fat" if you might be transferring files to and from a Windows machine. The reason is Windows machines and Max can read and write to the "MS-DOS fat" format but your files will need to be under 4 GB each as that's the maximum file size it can hold.
6. Then click apply and your Mac will create all the partitions you wanted and you're good to go.

Thanks for reading it is helpful please click the button thanks.

5A great portable drive for new Macs!
By maxmasa31
In ten years, I've owned at least five external hard drives from Western Digital and have never had a problem with any of them. They're reliable, well-made, and priced right. I've never had one die on me and the only reason I've owned so many is that they eventually can't hold enough of my media! To this day, I still use the first 60 GB drive I bought for twice this price!

The WD My Passport is a very compact, lightweight drive perfect for students or professionals. It's not much larger than a deck of standard playing cards and weighs just a bit more. It uses a USB 3.0 interface, which allows for faster file transfer speeds, but you'll need a computer with the right connection.

How can you tell? Basically, if your Mac was purchased before June 2012, it most likely has the slower USB 2.0 ports. All NEW Macs, however, have USB 3.0 ports. If you're not sure, another way to tell is if you look at your USB ports--if it's blue, you're good--if it's white, it's still USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, though, so it'll still work on a USB 2.0 port; you just won't see the speed increase--it'll transfer at USB 2.0 speeds. Also, USB 3.0's theoretical speeds aren't as fast as Apple's ThunderBolt, but it's the cheaper option. Still, it's a huge speed difference over the older USB 2.0 standard. As an example, I transferred a 25 GB video file from my MacPro to the drive in under 5 minutes; my old USB 2.0 drive took 14.

If you're a Mac user, this drive comes formatted in HFS, so it'll work for your right out of the box, no problems. If you're a Windows user, you'll have to reformat it to NTFS (or just buy the regular WD drive, which is usually cheaper and comes formatted for Windows). If you're planning on going between the two platforms, however, you'll need to format it in exFAT using a Windows computer. An exFAT drive will work on any Mac OS running Snow Leopard (10.6.5 ) or later, but you'll need to install a driver for use on Linux. Another final option is to buy a third-party program, like Paragon for Mac, which allows users to write to NTFS volumes, or MacDrive for PC, which mounts HFS volumes.

All the technobabble aside, this is a standard 5400 rpm external hard drive that's great for shuttling around large files, and with the faster USB 3.0 speeds, is great for on-the-go editing of raw video footage in Final Cut on a Macbook Pro. For reliability, price, size, and convenience, it's an easy five stars!

5Essential for the Retina Macbook Pro.
By Sledman
I've had the drive a few weeks and use it almost daily. I purchased a new Macbook Pro Retina and thought I could live with the 256 SSD drive in it. Turns out I was dead wrong. Even with streamlining my apps, not using it to store music and movies I still filled up the drive very quickly. I use this drive for everything, Dropbox,G-drive, movies, music etc. So far works great and the USB 3.0 is fast. Highly recommended. I do have a couple of notes:

1. This is the same as the standard 1T My Passport, only it comes pre-formated for mac (and has the "for mac" writing on it). You can buy and format the standard and it will be the same thing. I got this version because, I like the color and it was $15 cheaper at the time then the standard version and it saves me the 2 minutes of reformatting the drive.

2. It's very small and very light. I have an older My Passport and it's giant compared to this thing. The case is also plastic. Would have been nice to have aluminum for added protection but it seems sturdy. Also the aluminum and black will match your mac perfectly if thats what your going for.

3. After I received it and commuted for a bit I realized I probably should get a case for it. After looking online I decided on the Amazon Basics case. I can report it looks great, functions perfectly and adds the extra protection I was looking for so If I drop my bag I wont have to worry about the drive.

Again, If you need a great drive at a fair price then this is the one.

5Read this before you believe bad reviews!!!
By Daniel C. Cronk
My girlfriend got me this mic for my birthday as I like to write music in my free time. This mic works beautifully for the price and anyone who says otherwise probably didn't read the instructions that came with the mic. There is actually a setting on your computer (for PCs) called either "AGC" or "Mic Boost" if this is enabled on your mic it will be very sensitive. I too was experiencing buzzing when I first plugged in my mic but after READING THE INSTRUCTIONS I found that if you turn off this setting on the mic it will eliminate all those extra noises you don't want to record. So I went into my mics settings in the control panel and turned of the "AGC" option and now the mic records beautifully and I have no extra noises in my recordings.

5Great mic, people on here are WRITING bad reviews becuase they don't know how to use it!!!
By Mattinthebox
Okay you guys, i read many of these reviews before getting this product, and they said it picks up all these radio signal sounds and such but there is any easy solution to completely getting rid of that horid buz sound. I bought this thinking what the heck its $30, cheapest usb mic on the market. At first when recording i heard very annoying sounds, so I began to do some research online about what causes this sound. See most laptops and some desktops, actually most desktops now days have two pronged electricity power cords; it's missing the third one. The third one makes the device(computer) grounded meaning electricity can't pass through all the computer's ports and such. This electric current goes through the usb port of the mic thus causing the buz sound. Simply if you have a laptop unplug the computer and the mic will work amazingly!!! On desktop computers, if you don't have a back up battery then simply buy a three prong adapter from radioshack and add it on to the end of the desktop's power cord. This will also get rid of this buzzing sound that people are leaving horrible reviews about. The mic itself is amazing for the price it could be easily be compared equal to some hundred dollar mics!!! The plastic stand that it has works very well. Also, the usb plug is gold plated which allows more data to pass to the computer allowing better quality in recordings. Not only this, the mics cord is actual at least a meter and a half long which is absolutely awesome. Like most professional mics, a windscreen and a pop filter are very important to bring the best quality of this item. I use this for vocals and rapping and it works very well. I actually became disappointed with all the bad reviews thinking that their mic is broken or is a cheap piece of trash, so please support this review so people see it at the top, so they know how to use a usb mic!!!
thanks for reading, Mattinthebox

4Works for me
By S. Fontenot
I bought this mic to record voices for some amature video games my friends and I make (and secretly for beatboxing late at night). To this end it worked well, so I got a few friends together one day and we decided to try singing into it. Again, it worked above expectations. So I decided to put it to a real test: I recorded myself playing solo bassoon at various distances, and I was surprised at how it could pick up everything from tongue and pitch alterations to the clicking of my keys in a quiet room (with the boost on).

However, the puff reduction (thing that keeps the "p" sound from squealing) doesn't work nearly as well as I had hoped, but this is remedied by keeping a fair distance away when talking. Doing so subjects the recording to room noise and echo, but it's a fair price to pay for a $40 mic. Thumbs up.

2Getting better with driver updates
By MikeBaz
This is at least the second Targus USB 3.0 dock. (There was an ACP-70US - without the "Z" - and before that there was at least one USB 2.0 version of the same basic thing.) I purchased the non-Z version at a local store, and had a lot of trouble with stability of the dock, so I brought it back and bought this newer version.

It is still an unstable product, even with the current (Jan., 2013) firmware and drivers. The audio out dropped more than once a day, so I eventually stopped trying to use it and now plug the speakers into the machine (a Surface Pro) when the dock is being used, ignoring the on-dock audio completely.

And then, about once a day, the dock just "checks out". The hardware is still there, but it's nonresponsive - any peripherals attached aren't really available. The more common case of this is the monitors connected (I'm using both ports) just get frozen with whatever they had, the USB devices slowly drop out (e. g. mouse and keyboard work, but then at some point stop), etc. To fix this you have to unplug the dock from the computer, unplug the power (which at the dock is annoying, because the plug has a sliding, locking connector), plug the power back in, and connect to the computer. Then you're good for another... day if you're lucky.

I am very close to returning this unit and trying a different manufacturer's one at this point. The only thing stopping me right now is the fear that since all of these dual-display docks are basically the same guts (DisplayLink), that I'd be swapping one broken unit for another.

UPDATE IN APRIL, 2013: The very recent April driver update (7.1) has made a substantial difference. I've now gone nearly a week without the sound dropping or the Ethernet dropping. I see other posts about people having the exact same issues I was having, especially the Ethernet. I don't know if the updated drivers would help them, but it helped me. We'll need to see if it's a long term fix but so far at least, it's much better.

Also this is on Windows 8 - I should have said that before. Very specifically it's on a Surface Pro.

UPDATE APRIL 18: The drivers are not perfect still - I have had one drop of the Ethernet earlier this week after all, and just now, a loss of the sound. And there seems to be a new issue with this driver release around performance on the displays - the mouse cursor and scrolling are "jumpy" and that was not the case before. So it's still a work in progress even after all this time. So I am still waiting on DisplayLink to continue their improvements. The device works well enough at this point to not bother sending it back, and DisplayLink powers all of the other devices of this type so it's not like there's a choice around it even if I did send it back. That said I've dropped the rating back because it's a little silly that after all this time there are still issues around it.

I should also mention you CAN'T currently find the updated drivers on the Targus site - I just checked. They are at the DisplayLink site (7.2M0 released April 3, 2013).

UPDATE JUNE 18: The May 2013 drivers are better still. Biggest remaining issue is sound dropping every so often.

UPDATE AUGUST 30: The 7.4M0 drivers (from DisplayLink - Targus still has 7.3M1) seemed better, but audio dropout seemed to get much worse. I ended up completely uninstalling them (after unplugging the dock), rebooting, installing 7.3M1, connecting the dock, waiting for the hardware update and driver load (note: I don't remember seeing the update during an upgrade - that could be a UI issue or an actual installer bug, I don't know), confirming everything was working, disconnecting the dock, uninstalling fully again, rebooting, installing 7.4M0, connecting the dock (again including a hardware update), and then everything was happy for now. We'll see how stable it is. I've dropped my rating because this is a bit ridiculous, not having a reliable driver after all this time.

UPDATE DECEMBER 5: Even at 7.4M2 I'm still seeing the dropouts of audio. I did find a better way to fix it: (1) right-click volume icon in notification area (2) choose "Playback devices" (3) right-click "Speakers - Targus USB Audio" and choose "Properties" (4) change to the Enhancements tab (5) Change any of the enhancement checkboxes, click Apply, then change it back, and click Apply. [The change back isn't necessary but leaves you how you started.] Changing this setting seems to force the driver to sort itself out.

5Works as advertised. Up to five displays, GigE, no waiting.
By Tyler Pomerhn
I'm not certain why so many others are having issues with this dock. I bought two (one for work, one for home).

Unboxed one, plugged GigE, some USB2.0 peripherals, and two 1920x1080 displays into the device, powered it up, and plugged it into the USB3.0 port on my Asus G74SX. The laptop detected the hub, but had very few of the components working. After inserting the driver CD that came with the unit and installing the drivers, the GigE port lit up and ran at 1Gbps, the USB2.0 fired up, everything worked but the dual external monitors. However, I waited about five minutes and the monitors suddenly engaged at the full 1920x1080 FullHD resolution.

Subsequent plug-ins to either of the docks worked flawlessly. A software update popped up with Windows Update a week later, with many updates for the dock; one of the biggest was for the DisplayPort software, which is software that extends video through the USB port. Technically, my NVidia GPU on the Asus doesn't see these monitors as external displays, so theoretically I could run with more than three screens. I tested and was able to run the GigE port to transfer files, while I was watching a 1080p video on one external display through the dock and another external display running YouTube, all while running apps on the laptop's main screen.

In short, This device was about as plug-and-play as can be, and that's saying something - I've been in the industry for 15+ years, and rarely had anything be so stunningly transparent, easy to use, and functional. I run with three displays (two external plus the laptop's own screen), GigE, and other peripherals all with a single USB cable.

My advice for others who might have problems - check your drivers, both on the software for the dock and for your own USB3.0 controller. I would wager that 90% of the issues are related to the laptop's own USB drivers, or perhaps running a set of screens at non-standard resolutions (though my work external screens are 1920x1080, which is standard, and my home screens are 1920x1200, and the docks have no issues switching between the resolutions, even when resuming from sleep), or running with outdated software. Maybe the 64-bit drivers are better than their 32-bit cousins. I dunno.

Bottom line? If there is some form of incompatibility, then you'll probably hate it. And let's be real, folks, it's been out a whole three or so months. But for those of us who need a docking solution that is easy to use and ubiquitous across manufacturers, and the drivers work, this is an EXCELLENT device.

3Works great, but don't lose you're power supply!
By B. Roldan
I've been using the Targus docking station for 3 months now with no problems. I've tested it with a Sony Vaio and Dell XPS, both performed flawlessly when I installed the latest drivers. I've used dual monitor and single monitor configurations with no problem.

Here is the biggest failing with the product. If you happen to lose your power supply, like I did on a recent business trip, you are out of luck. Targus WILL NOT sell you a replacement power supply. I tried mightily to convince their support team, but to no avail. Their solution to my problem? Go buy another Targus docking station... now I can have a spare docking station with my new power supply!

This decision by Targus is a major oversight in customer support, and so my total experience with the product goes from 5 stars down to 3.

1Cheap junk that's way below spec
By JHW
I'd be amazed that this junk has gotten so many positive reviews if I didn't already know from experience that, for most reviewers, the fact that a given cable or charger actually works is enough to give it a 5 star review.

Does this cable work? Yes. If you connect it from your smartphone or tablet to your wall charger wart, it will eventually charge your device.

Will it do it as quickly as a USB 2.0 cable should? Absolutely not.

Many of the current smartphones and all tablets require more than the usual 500mA (0.5 amps) charger to be adequately charged. That's why they all come with 2.0/2.1 amp chargers. The charger is not enough, however. The USB cable connected to the charger must be capable of allowing the device to draw the requisite charge (usually, around 1.8 amps).

These cables are not capable of doing so. I tested them with various charging warts (I have 5-6 of them). Two of the three cables drew only 500mA -- just what you'd get using that old Motorola charger you used with your old RAZR phone or connecting your device to the PC. The third went as high as 900mA, which is still about half of what you need for adequate charging of tablets and newer smartphones. What this means is that your device takes a good deal longer to charge than it otherwise would.

In short, you're not getting what you're paying for here -- a USB 2.0 cable that can deliver the required amperage.

5Good size, good price, good quality

Both ends of the cable are secure and proper size. They fit all of our phones. I have been using them for a few months and have had no problems, even though I sometimes just shove them in my crowded backpack instead of properly coiling.

5Buy Without Fear
By Platypus Rex
Almost every day I work for hours using a Computer Aided Design program, and over the years have found the Kensington Expert Trackball to be an indispensible labor (and arm) saving device. You get so much with so little movement! I was looking to buy a new one.
I had misgivings about this product after reading some "Worse than Bad" reviews that were in this forum. Still, either because hope springs eternal or a fool and his money are soon parted, I went ahead and ordered one.
Out of the box ball rotation was _The Worst_ as others had said. I had deadlines, however, so decided to use it to see if anything would improve. Two hours later it had "broken in".
Trackball Wizards, my number five is on the trophy shelf. The Seven is AAMMAAZZIINNGG. Totally silent movement; virtually frictionless rotation; excellent functionality, and it has GOT to have one of the most eloquent designs of any input device on the market.
As an added bonus the scroll ring beats any scroll wheel I have used, anywhere.
Congratulations to Kensington for creating a truly superior product.

4Major improvements to a classic design
By Shelley Gammon
This is a superior alternative to the silver and blue USB model by Kensington with the awkwardly placed scrollwheel. Kensington brings back their award-winning classic design, adds a scroll wheel around the ball (programmable for lefties or righties!), a free attachable wristpad and all using optics - no more skin, hair and potato chip crumbs getting stuck in scroll wheels... it's all done using light.
My less than perfect rating is for the less-than-fluid turning of the scroll wheel. It sometimes feels like you're grinding coffee when you're turning it. Sometimes it's smooth like butter, other times, it seems to skip a little... and it's not due to debris, since it's been like this since I got it out of the box.
This is something Kensington needs to iron out in their next model.
Despite this one flaw, this is simply the best their is and there's a good reason why this mouse flies off the shelves at nearly 100 bucks a pop - it's because it's the best input device alternative to a mouse - ever - anywhere.
Do your wrist a favor and treat yourself to navigating in joy.

4it had a lot of potential
By Nathan A. Sweet
I got this trackball because of wrist pains in my mouse hand. I will give my complete unbiased review here.

First, it is very pretty. The buttons are nice looking and easily clicked. The ball is a nice size.

The trackball comes with a wrist rest, however it is not comfortable if you use your fingertips to move the ball. In fact, the Kensington documentation states that your hand should "hover" when using your fingertips to move the ball. The reason is, when you move the ball towards you, your fingers have to bend and your wrist bends upwards. In order to keep your wrist straight, you have to hover your palm over the wrist rest. So why did they include a wrist rest?

The only other configuration possible is to rest the blade of your hand, pinky side down, on the wrist rest and use your thumb to move the ball. This position feels good, however I found I am much less accurate with my thumb. Also if you have any thumb pain, this position is not feasible.

The scroll ring is a very nice feature. However, as everyone else has found, it sounds like it has sand in it when rotated. I took it apart and lubed it with a plastic safe grease. Even though I worked the grease into the mechanism, the plastic bearings still make the grinding sound while saturated in grease. I can't get to them to see if they can be replaced without breaking the plastic, which has been melted closed.

The ball was stiff out of the box. The ball sits on three very tiny red balls, which act as bearings. Remove the ball and put a small dab of grease on these bearings, replace the ball and spin it, then remove the ball and clean it. Clean up all the lube from the bearings so they don't get the ball greasy. Then ball is then VERY smooth, with none of the "static friction" that is mentioned in other reviews. The grease to use is Radio Shack Multi-Purpose Lube Gel item #64-2326. Any plastic safe, non-evaporating lube should work.

I imagine after a few hours of use the ball would also become "broken in" and loose, but probably still not as good as with the lube.

After two days of use, two of the three small plastic cups that hold the little red ball bearings for the main ball broke. It seems the only way for this to happen would be if I dropped the ball in the socket very hard, which I did NOT do. The little cups do seem that the are easily broken, though I have not read anyone else having this same problem, so it could be an isolated incident. I have contacted Kensington for a replacement. I hope they can help. If I can keep my broken trackball, I will take apart the scroll ring bearings and see if it can be improved.

The drivers for the device are superb, although the user interface is sometimes awkward. You can set actions for each of the four buttons or when you press the top two or bottom two at the same time. Further, you can have it do different actions when any of those buttons are pressed with ctrl, alt, shift, or any combination of the three.

The actions you can take are extensive. You can run an application, simulate a series of key presses, paste some text, close applications, show a customizable menu, maximize windows, etc. Good job Kensington!

The acceleration settings are very important. The trackball has to be accurate for small movements, yet you shouldn't have to paw at the thing to move the cursor across the whole screen. This cannot be accomplished using any combination of the "fine tuning" controls the driver provides. The acceleration curve they allow you to create is much too linear.

Fortunately there is still hope. On Windows, in your user's home directory, look in Application Data\Kensington\MouseWorks. You will find a KMW_Preferences.xml file. Edit this file with a text editor and you can define your own acceleration curve. To do so, under "Acceleration" set the "Level" to 1, then modify the numbers of the first "Multipliers" entry. I found 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 13, 20, 26, 36, 90, 90 to work exactly like I want. After editing and saving the file, run the kmw_prb_xml.exe file in your MouseWorks installation directory. This will causes your changes to the XML file to be applied. Then if you go to the acceleration page in the driver, you will see your custom acceleration curve on their little graph!

With my custom acceleration curve I can accurately make small movements for clicking links, menu items, and expanding folders while navigating a filesystem. Also, I can travel the whole screen height with just one movement of the trackball. Perfect! Kudos to Kensington for allowing the preferences file to be customized so easily and for providing such great options for configuring the button presses.

The device had a lot of potential. If Kensington would make the scroll ring silky smooth and make the little red ball bearings more durable, the product would be amazing. As it is now, the scroll ring is cheap feeling and annoying, but it is a great feature to have. A scratchy scroll ring is better than none and it can be lived with.

The durability of the bearings is still a question I have. I hope to find a positive response from Kensington regarding my replacement inquiry and hopefully the next one I get won't break.

The only other negative aspect is the wrist rest is useless for 80%+ of people who will use the trackball with their fingertips. In fact it is better to not attach the rest because you will find yourself using it, putting your wrist in a bent position.

It would be great to have a trackball that could be used with the fingertips and had a rest for the wrist. To see what I mean, detach the wrist rest that comes with the Expert Mouse. Put a book under the rest and use it that way. Pretty comfy huh?

In all, it is a good device. If my suggestions are fixed in the next version, it would be a KILLER device. Granted, I don't think there is another trackball as good as this one, but that doesn't mean this one should not be improved. As is, it is a bit overpriced. The ball, buttons, and plastics are nice, but the scroll ring and bearings don't have the quality of a $100 device. A more realistic price would be $45-$50. I see it can currently be found for $60 from Amazon after a mail in rebate, so that is an ok buy.

Please Kensington, please fix the problems above and provide us with the BEST mouse replacement the world has ever seen!

UPDATE: I sent Kensington an email regarding my broken trackball and 90 minutes later they responded and have shipped me a new trackball. Now that is great service!

I took apart my broken trackball and inspected the bearings for the scroll ring. It uses rubber rollers on one side and tiny white plastic ball bearings for the other side. The rollers don't make any noise, the problem is the plastic bearings rub against plastic and metal. Greasing it does not help. The design is flawed and there is no way possible to fix the scroll ring so it rotates smoothly. Another reviewer mentioned that taking out the magnet helps. I don't recommend this as it does not reduce the noise and makes the ring rotate too easily (possibly on accident).

So Kensington has something to improve on, though even with its noise, I am glad to have it.

UPDATE: Unfortunately the MouseWorks software doesn't work on Windows 7. I have heard it also doesn't work with Vista. There are rumors it will work if it can be run in compatibility mode, but this only works for 32-bit Windows. 64-bit definitely does not work, and there is no workaround.

The trackball still works, you are just unable to change what the 4 buttons do and you have little control over the mouse acceleration.

I contacted Kensington about this and they suggested I sign up to beta new Kensington trackball software that will work on Windows 7. I did so, but apparently the software is not ready for the public to beta. As of 5/2010, it is unknown when the beta will begin.

3Great lenth, thats about it.
By terry
I can't rate this product by all of them, only the one I relieved. I bought this for my office and it does not charge as efficiently as the only that came with my phone. The stock cable charges fast and easy no matter if I am using my phone or not. This one however, charges slow and if I am doing something on my phone as it charges it will sit at the same charge percentage until I stop using it. I have seen it sit at 46% for well over thirty minutes.

5Works on USB 2.0 and USB 3.0
By Sam
This is a well made, sturdy, albeit somewhat thick cable.

I bought it so that I could extend both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 cables. I.E., you can plug this cable into a USB 2.0 port on a computer and attach a USB 2.0 device or cable to the other end and it will work fine.

To be clear: you can attach a USB 2.0 phone cable to this extension cord, plug it into a USB 2.0 port on your PC and you will be able to both charge your phone and transfer data to and from it (at USB 2.0 speeds).

You can, of course, also plug this cable into a USB 3.0 port on a computer and plug a USB 3.0 device or cable into the other end and it will work fine.

Posting this info since some other reviewers were questioning this. The USB 3.0 standard is designed to be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 (and even USB 1.1).

The USB 3.0 connector is designed so that the extra pins needed for USB 3.0 are recessed, and they won't be used if the cable is plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

USB 3.0 is a superset of USB 2.0, so why not purchase an extension cable that will serve both types of devices and ports?

5Great Product, Very Happy with Purchase
By Amazon Shopping Addict
I purchased this for an external USB 3 JBOD enclosure I will need for my PC.

At the moment, I haven't received the JBOD enclosure, but I tested this cable with an Intel X25-V 40GB SSD in a MSI Coolmax HD-250TN-U3 USB 3 enclosure using a PCIe x1 Renesas 2-Port (EVGA EU30) card and saw HD Tune 2.55 return the following stats for a 4MB Block Size:
Transfer Rate:
Min: 134.6 MB/sec
Max: 149.2 MB/sec
Average 144.5 MB/sec
Access Time: 0.1 ms
Burst Rate: 73.6 MB/sec

This was with the SSD having 12.2 GB free of 37.2 GB.

When the SSD/enclosure was attached directly to the EU30 without using the extension cable, I saw the following results:
Transfer Rate:
Min: 138.0 MB/sec
Max: 149.4 MB/sec
Average 144.2 MB/sec
Access Time: 0.1 ms
Burst Rate: 74.5 MB/sec

My conclusion: No real speed loss when using the extension cable.

Other observations: The cable is nice and thick; the male/female ends feel strong and unlikely to break even with thousands of insertions/removal

UPDATE: When I used the extension cable with the NST-640SU3-BK enclosure, the disks would appear and disappear in Windows. Removing the cable fixed the issue.

5Important info for you on this
By Chriseveringham
This is a topnotch cable. Very good quality. Be aware, while usb 3.0 devices are usually backwards compatible you are not going to be able to buy this cord and connect it to a USB 2.0 port and have it work. I have had experience first hand with this happening to people and want to get this message out to who ever I can and maybe save someone the cost. But other then that one foot note, this item is excellent and the seller was right on the ball and got it out asap. If you need one I would go for it. I will come back to this seller in the future when I need these. Enjoy and God Bless.

1DOES NOT WORK WITH Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT P5113
By Mary Shade
Do NOT purchase this if you are ordering an extra cable/charger for your Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT P5113. It will not work. I purchased this, plugged it in and nothing happened. After doing some digging, discovered it is not the right cable or charger. you need parts ETA-P10JBEG, which I looked up on the Samsung website. Nice job, Samsung. Your practice of not providing standard cables/chargers for all your Tabs is ridiculous. Now I have to return this and spend way too much for another one. I cannot find one here on Amazon. Oh and Amazon, please make sure your customers realize this. It might save someone time and money.

4works like it should, but.....
By fishgeek
I know, I know, I'm supposed to review the product and not the seller here. The charger works like it's supposed, is the same as the one that came with my Galaxy Tab 10.1. It's wonderful to have a spare I can keep in my backpack and just leave the other at home in my nightstand. BUT, clearly this item was not new. It just isn't. C'mon, anyone could tell that. So yes, it works fine. But I paid for a new item. "Bulk packaging" is not a euphemism for used. I purchased from the OEM Shop. Annoyed for sure.

EDIT: 1/2/2012 Just going through my reviews and realized that I forgot to add an update to this. Shortly after my review, OEM Shop did contact me to rectify the problem. That's fair, and I do appreciate it. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, I suppose. Solid charger.

1BEWARE ! Probably Counterfeit.
By Doug
I am 99% certain this is a counterfeit product, and it doesn't work right.

First, if you have an Android product, get Battery Monitor from 3c. It's in Play Store, and it's free. What it does is show you the current flow into or out of your battery, with updated values every 60 seconds. With no charger connected, I see an outflow between 900 and 1100 ma on my Note 10.1. Seems about right for 7 hour life on built-in 7000 mah battery. Now connect charger that came with Note 10.1 tablet. Give app a minute to get new number, and you will see around 900 ma flowing into battery. Seems completely reasonable since the charger is rated at 2000 ma. Current first goes to run the tablet, and what's left over goes to battery.

Now connect this thing to the tablet, and you will see charge between -100 ma and +100 ma (depending on screen brightness and processor workload). Many people have said this unit doesn't charge (which matched my experience), and Battery Monitor says they are right. Seems the charger's total current output is limited around 1000 ma, regardless of the label saying 2000 ma capability.

Could it just be a bad unit? Well, maybe, but ... The case isn't quite the same. This real Samsung supply is completely rectangular. This one tapers, with the dimensions nearest the wall connector being about .120 less than at the USB end (for both X and Y axis). It's also about 0.05" longer. The original charger has part-lines from front to back, as would be necessary to get it out of the mold with parallel sides. The presumed-counterfeit has no part lines, which would require a tapered design for extraction from the mold.

Also, the logo is not the same size (.09 high on original charger vs .13" on this unit), and the straight lines in the U and N are a little curved (in a way that the corporate logo police at Samsung would probably never let out the door). Lettering is perfect on original charger. And the disposable plastic film is completely different between the two.

Does Samsung have 2 chargers, one good and one bad, both with same part number? I suppose that's possible, but most unlikely. Not surprisingly, the charger I bought at BestBuy last night matches the original perfectly (both in appearance and performance).

The real charger comes in a nice box that says Samsung all over it, and has a hologram. This one comes "bulk packed" in a plastic bag, obviously without a hologram that says "Samsung Original."

99% chance it's a counterfeit, and 99% chance you will only get trickle-charging with this one if you try to use it with a Note 10.1.

Beyond that, I think the old saying, "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is" applies. Samsung (and BestBuy) get $50 for this charger. How is it possible for A-Mall to sell the same thing for $18.30 on Amazon (and be qualified for free 2-day Prime shipping)? Amazon obviously gets a significant cut of the $18.30, and the seller should be making a profit, plus paying for shipping to Amazon. Is the dealer price from Samsung below $10, as needed to make this possible? Doubtful.

99% chance it's a counterfeit, and 99% chance you will only get trickle-charging with this one if you try to use it with a Note 10.1.

2BEWARE: some good and some bad versions from different sellers
By Bob Carroll : Gooplusplus•com
===========
UPDATE #3 - AMAZON is lumping several sellers of this product with this single review thread. THAT IS A REALLY BAD IDEA because some sellers are shipping products that DO match the Amazon product photo and some are shipping inferior bad-fitting versions that DO NOT match the photo and either DO NOT WORK or just fit poorly and barely work. Since product quality varies so much, to be useful, reviewers really should state their seller's username in reviews.
===========
UPDATE #4 - Great news - there is now a $2 Android app called Nexus Media Importer that lets you view/listen to your USB media files without "rooting" your Nexus 7 tablet. It works great. I have a short review with images at LasValley702 forums.
===========

First, the "only" good news - shipment from this seller "Crazy-Stores" from Hong Kong was quick. This one arrived several days ago and an identical one bought from a different Amazon seller "Warm Mart" ordered on the same day still has not arrived. I will note that the shape of and markings on the received micro-USB OTG adapter do NOT match the seller's Amazon product photo.

The micro-USB plug on this adapter will not make electrical contact with the Google Nexus 7 tablet because it will not insert fully into the N7's USB port (bad fit or poorly made, your choice). If I wedge something between a USB keyboard case I bought for the N7 and N7's USB port, the keyboard will work BUT constant pressure must be maintained or it will not. BTW, wedging something against the N7's USB port is just not a good idea and could eventually damage it. So, for me, this micro-USB OTG adapter is worthless.

As I said, the 2nd OTG adapter I bought from the other Amazon seller "Warm Mart" still has not arrived from Hong Kong. So, I bought a 3rd adapter from Ebay seller "itrimming". This one from Ebay fits snug and works perfectly with my Google N7 tablet.

If you have a Google N7 tablet, avoid this seller's adapter. (It "might" work fine on other devices.)

BTW, this adapter came in the mail with nothing but the adapter inside. There was no indication which Amazon seller had sent it so I had to email both of them to inquire if "Tom Tang" and the SKU-XXX belonged to them or to someone else. I don't think it is too much to ask that Amazon sellers at least mark their packages and/or contents with their seller name.

UPDATE #1: see my two user images at the top to see the difference between this Amazon purchased adapter (not compatible with the Google N7 tablet) and the one I bought on Ebay.

UPDATE #2: I received the 2nd Amazon purchased adapter (seller: Warm Mart) today. I notice that the seller names (1) Crazy-Stores and (2) Warm Mart from my order now seem to point a link to a new one "Digital Center". Both Amazon purchased adapters look identical (and not the same as the product photo). Both have a plug too long for the Google Nexus 7 tablet. Surprisingly, the 2nd one actually works anyway (at least for the moment) even though it sticks out from the N7 USB port way too far.

2Incorrectly sized connector fits loosely
By Stephenk
I ordered two of these for 0.70 each. The micro USB connector is sized strangely, it's about twice as long as it should be, and the actually width of the connector is slightly smaller than typical. The effect is a very loose, wobbly connection. It does work, however, and for the price I paid I'm satisfied. The problem is that it's just not very secure.

5Works great for the Galaxy Nexus
By Stephen Hayes
I ordered two to use with my Galaxy Nexus. At first, it took a minute for my phone to recognize the adapter. Now, it will instantly recognize everything connected to the adapter. I am able to power a lit keyboard and a mouse attached to an unpowered USB hub connected to the adapter without problems. Mounting a flash drive works great as well.
Be warned, using a keyboard and mouse will drain battery life quickly and there isn't a way to charge while using the adapter.

For other Galaxy Nexus users: The phone doesn't have drivers included to natively mount USB storage devices. Download StickMount on the market if you have root access and mounting flash drives will be quick and simple.

5Super Card Reader
By WMWM
Ive been looking for a fast card reader to import all my DSLR RAW+Jpeg shots without taking forever. Even though this one seemed a bit more expensive, i can assure you, its worth it. Most important thing, speed, which is very fast, i got sustained speeds of 40+ MBps with a Sandisk ExtremePro 16 GB (theoretical max speed of 45MBps) . When the card is in use, the red kingston logo lights up. Also durability is a giant plus, you cannot tell from the photos, but the top shell is made from dark brushed metal, giving it a classy and cool look while hiding fingerprints, along with looking chiseled. The cord is 2.5 ft long so it suits my purposes well. Even if this wasnt USB 3.0 it would still be a great USB 2.0 card reader. 5 stars!

Pros:
Fast USB 3 speeds
cord is replacable
Brushed metal shell
lighted kingston logo
2 year warranty

Cons:
expensive

5Works as expected. Solid construction.
By Wes
I needed a reader to replace my built in reader to the PC. So I got this reader + the Plugable USB 3.0 card.

I've used the SD and CF slots, and they are very easy to access. The cards go in and come out without the awkward bumps or need to use strange hand contortions.

I also capture some statistics, although I'm not sure how relevant this is to the reader itself since, the media you are accessing generally limits the transfer rate. I wish I had some type of media that actually exceeded the rate of transfer USB 3.0 provides to test the reader, but I don't have anything that fast right now.

5I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!
By Sally
Buy this reader - it is a dream compared to USB 2.0 readers, and its price make it the obvious choice compared to the other products in this arena.

I shoot with a 21mp Canon 5D Mark II, and the largest cards I have are 32 gig compact flash cards. In moving from USB 2.0 to Firewire 800 on my Mac, to USB 3.0 with this reader, it's a delight to see my 32 gig card downloaded in just over 7 minutes compared to what would have taken around 40 minutes with USB 2.0.

The reader supports other card types, but I do not have those and so cannot comment on its performance with them.

4Portable Multi-Card (SD, SDHC, CF, MMC, Etc.) Reader
By Richard La Barca
This little multi-card reader is a nice item to have...it's small enough to carry with you to use with your laptop, netbook or other USB enabled device to read, copy or transfer files on various memory cards.

My main purpose was to have a CF (compact flash, which I still use) reader to use with my laptop. For the couple of bucks paid, I am very happy with this item.

The only thing lacking is that it will only read one card at a time...it shows as a single USB connected device in Windows Explorer (My Computer).

Still, this is just a very convenient card reader to have available.

5Big Bang, Little Bucks!!!! GREAT
By The One
So i bought a Lexar and an Esecure All in 1 mini card reader. Today i received both and put them to the test.

TEST
Transfer 4 mov files that total 877mb. Here are the results.
CF Card used Transcend 600x

Lexar (FIREWIRE 400)
test 1 = 00:00'58"3
test 2 = 00:00'58"4
test 3 = 00:00'58"3

Esecure (USB 2.0)
test 1 = 00:00'27"1
test 2 = 00:00'34"2
test 3 = 00:00'26"1

I was a little disappointed that the Lexar took longer because i expected it to be faster.

Lexar - CF cards ONLY
Esecure - 150 different cards

Lexar - Expensive (approx $45)
Esecure - Cheap (approx $10)

The size of the Esecure is smaller than the Lexar.

WINNER ESECURE ALL in 1 by far. Recommended by me.

I'll update review if things change as far as malfunctions and durability.

1Don't be tempted to buy this card reader if you use CF.
By Loeb
The form factor and feature set for this card reader is awesome. The price is awesome too. I read all the reviews for this card reader and decided that I am more careful than the other reviewers who bent the pins in the CF slot. Wrong. Even though I knew to be extra careful and I have never bent a pin in another CF reader, this one bent after only a few uses. If you need to use the CF slot, find another product.
