5Removes gum and other sticky residue
By M. Anderson
I bought this to remove some sticky stuff left behind after I removed duct tape from a metal surface. A few weeks later, I managed to get chewing gum on the floor mats of my new car.

This product easily removed the tape residue and the chewing gum from my shoes and the floor mats. It leaves behind a slight citrus (i.e. Oranges) smell, which evaporates quickly.

3Toy collectors may want to look elsewhere
By D. R. Berger
I've used Bestine* (an ages-old solvent thinner, available at most art supply stores) to remove price stickers from toys, but a buddy recommended this product to me, so I decided to give it a go. I used it to remove a price sticker from the blister of a carded Mego Hulk - the product worked, but it took five applications to get all of the paper and goo gone. Bestine would have made quicker work of it.

I'm nervous about trying to remove stickers from toy cards, as I don't know what effect this will have soaking into the paper (and the soaking is necessary with Goo Gone... it's not with Bestine, as it evaporates very quickly). It works, but due to its slow-soak nature, I'll stick with the ages-old method from now on.

* Believe it or not, I don't work for Bestine, I've just found it to be very useful, so I figured I'd write this review in case someone hasn't heard of it.

5Does the Job!
By Steve
I've been using Goo Gone for years to get residue off of video game cases, CD cases, etc. I've used it to clean up duct tape, price labels, and stickers. I always keep a bottle around the house, I'm always finding new uses for the stuff. It even smells great - like oranges!

4Excellent with a few disappointments
By Andy
I received my Kindle Fire HDX 8.9"" and the matching Standing Leather Origami Case yesterday.

I order the red color and found it to be a deeper red than my computer screen rendered it. Like a burgundy or crimson, with just a tiny hint of purple.

1. Not like my Paperwhite cover. I expected this origami case to be just like the Amazon case that is made for my Kindle Paperwhite, but this one is significantly different. I hold my Paperwhite in its case as I would a book, which I find more comfortable than holding a naked tablet. The cover of this Origami case has "folds" that allow for super-easy setup into a stand. But this makes it very unlike a book. I have really grown attached to relying on my Paperwhite cover this way, and was expecting to read on my Fire the same way. Alas, I must resort to turning the cover all the way around to the back, the way you might a large paperback book.

2. Good protection. The cover is held closed by magnets. In the closed position, my Fire HDX is protected along every side from a fall. The sides are shielded with a hard, black lip or the sturdy edges of the cover that extend out further than my Fire.

3. Ease of use. With the perfect fit and strong magnets, my Kindle just slid into place almost by itself as soon as I approximated the case. The folds on the cover fold effortlessly into the shape of a stand. When in this position, my Kindle seems very secure.

4. Access/functionality. The fact that opening the case automatically turns on your Kindle, and closing it turns the Kindle off, is fantastic. It is a feature I have come to really appreciate in my Paperwhite cover. The on/off switch remains fully functional if you want it. The headphone jack is in no way obstructed so that your access is as good as without the case. Finally, my Fire sits in the case in such a way that there is a space between them where the speakers are. My sound is not muffled one bit. However, I don't quite agree with Amazon's claim that the case actually redirects sound towards you. I would not go so far to say that the case improves the audio experience at all.

5. Heavy. This thing is solid. What you gain in stability, you pay for with weight. The Fire HDX is an incredible thin, lightweight device. Together with this leather Origami cover, the weight seems at least double, as does the bulk. It's a trade-off, to be sure, but you do gain protection and I find it easier to use.

Finally, this thing seems expensive. Don't expect soft, luxurious, natural-looking leather. This is highly processed, hard stuff. As of the release date of the Fire HDX, though, I found this case to be the best one available.

3Good as a Stand Up Holder, Not So Good for Reading
By Michael Gallagher
This is a neat case in it's design - it securely holds your Kindle Fire HDX and, once you get used to the folds of the Origami pattern you can stand the HDX up on its side in landscape mode on a table or level surface: trying to prop it up on my bed, however, kept having it fall down as the surface isn't firm or flat enough to make the holder "hold."

When you do close the case / cover up, it will put your Fire HDX in sleep mode, and it wakes it up when you open the cover back up. The speakers are in the back of the Fire HDX, and one of my concerns with the HDX was the cover would muffle the sound: the designers put just a small amount of space between the cover and the speakers so the sound can get out and reverberate off the back of the cover and towards you as you are watching a video, etc.

If taking pictures is your thing, I will caution you this covers up the read-facing camera and the LED flash.

While the Origami feature is nice if you are into standing your Fire up, it is way too flimsy for me for when I am reading: I like holding the cover like a traditional book, and having a foldable cover in my left hand makes it seem weak and every once in a while the Fire will fold down as the Origami cover starts folding away. In retrospect, I wish was a firm leather cover available for this model at the time I ordered the HDX vs. the Origami one as I don't stand mine up very often, and pricing seems a little high at $70 for what I have.

5This case delivers as promised in the product description. Wonderful!
By English Teacher
This case is wonderful! The leather is a fine quality, for starters; much better than the case designed for the prior generation HD Fire. Yes, the color is dark (the red tends to be more of a maroon), but it is a nice, rich hue. The design of the case is innovative, and the case fits the Fire like a glove. With the magnetic design, the case is easy to put on or take off, and to pull down to reveal the camera. If I want to hold the Fire by itself, I can quickly remove the case. The featherweight Fire feels fragile without the case; in the case, it feels secure and protected.

The case solidly stands in either landscape or portrait mode; the origami design is easy to manipulate, and the magnets hold it solidly in place. I like holding my Fire on my lap in my comfy chair. This case allows me to easily prop my Fire for viewing without needing a table.

The most incredible and appreciated feature in my mind is that the case does indeed redirect the sound forward toward me. It drove me crazy with my prior Fires to have the sound going away from me. Now, because of this case's design, I am able to fully immerse in the incredible Dolby, stereo sound.

I feel the case is protective, but for extra protection when I am carrying my Fire or traveling, I zip it, enclosed in this case, into a very featherweight, Vera Bradley padded case.

I would highly recommend this case. This case was designed for the Fire, and, as the saying goes, this case "completes" the amazing Fire HDX.

5Works on USB 2.0 and USB 3.0
By Sam
This is a well made, sturdy, albeit somewhat thick cable.

I bought it so that I could extend both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 cables. I.E., you can plug this cable into a USB 2.0 port on a computer and attach a USB 2.0 device or cable to the other end and it will work fine.

To be clear: you can attach a USB 2.0 phone cable to this extension cord, plug it into a USB 2.0 port on your PC and you will be able to both charge your phone and transfer data to and from it (at USB 2.0 speeds).

You can, of course, also plug this cable into a USB 3.0 port on a computer and plug a USB 3.0 device or cable into the other end and it will work fine.

Posting this info since some other reviewers were questioning this. The USB 3.0 standard is designed to be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 (and even USB 1.1).

The USB 3.0 connector is designed so that the extra pins needed for USB 3.0 are recessed, and they won't be used if the cable is plugged into a USB 2.0 port.

USB 3.0 is a superset of USB 2.0, so why not purchase an extension cable that will serve both types of devices and ports?

5Great Product, Very Happy with Purchase
By Amazon Shopping Addict
I purchased this for an external USB 3 JBOD enclosure I will need for my PC.

At the moment, I haven't received the JBOD enclosure, but I tested this cable with an Intel X25-V 40GB SSD in a MSI Coolmax HD-250TN-U3 USB 3 enclosure using a PCIe x1 Renesas 2-Port (EVGA EU30) card and saw HD Tune 2.55 return the following stats for a 4MB Block Size:
Transfer Rate:
Min: 134.6 MB/sec
Max: 149.2 MB/sec
Average 144.5 MB/sec
Access Time: 0.1 ms
Burst Rate: 73.6 MB/sec

This was with the SSD having 12.2 GB free of 37.2 GB.

When the SSD/enclosure was attached directly to the EU30 without using the extension cable, I saw the following results:
Transfer Rate:
Min: 138.0 MB/sec
Max: 149.4 MB/sec
Average 144.2 MB/sec
Access Time: 0.1 ms
Burst Rate: 74.5 MB/sec

My conclusion: No real speed loss when using the extension cable.

Other observations: The cable is nice and thick; the male/female ends feel strong and unlikely to break even with thousands of insertions/removal

UPDATE: When I used the extension cable with the NST-640SU3-BK enclosure, the disks would appear and disappear in Windows. Removing the cable fixed the issue.

5Important info for you on this
By Chriseveringham
This is a topnotch cable. Very good quality. Be aware, while usb 3.0 devices are usually backwards compatible you are not going to be able to buy this cord and connect it to a USB 2.0 port and have it work. I have had experience first hand with this happening to people and want to get this message out to who ever I can and maybe save someone the cost. But other then that one foot note, this item is excellent and the seller was right on the ball and got it out asap. If you need one I would go for it. I will come back to this seller in the future when I need these. Enjoy and God Bless.

5Great Lens
By hp
Bought this from a NYC camera store and was delivered to me 11/11/13. I put myself on the wait list the minute it was announced so I am likely one of the first to get this lens. I have had only a few days worth of shooting but will put my initial impressions here.

Pros:

1. Superb optics. I am not a pixel peeper but no issues at any focal length even wide open. The lens is very sharp with fair contrast. No significant distortion. Slight CA. No noticeable vignetting in real life situations. I am not sure if my EM-5 is correcting for this lens with software. I have not tried on Panasonic bodies. All of this at a constant f2.8 throughout the zoom.

2. Size. No comparison to larger format lenses with a constant 2.8 aperture in this focal range. Others manufacturers might make FF and APS-C cameras smaller and smaller but they cannot match the size of the m4/3 lenses.

3. Very useful zoom range for the average shooter. This can be the one lens you can have for the entire system. It covers semi-wide to semi-long, good for landscapes to portraits. You might want to get prime lenses for bigger aperture, smaller size or shallower DOF/subject isolation but with the newer m4/3 cameras that do well at higher ISO, this lens is fine even for night-time photography.

4. Fantastic build quality. Olympus 75mm might be a tad better made but it is close. I should know; I own most primes from Olympus and Panasonic and a few zooms. I have tried almost every lens made for the m4/3 system from any manufacturer from friends. The lens is solid with good heft but not too heavy. It has good dampened rings which are as good as any m43 lens although inferior to lenses from Leica or older (pre-digital) lenses from Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc.

5. Looks fantastic. I know it has nothing to do with picture quality but if I was not into visually pleasing things, I would not be into photography in the first place.

6. Lens button. I love the fact I can assign DOF to this.

7. Auto focus/Snap focus. It's as fast and as quiet as any m4/3 lens used on my EM-5. The snap focus feature by pulling the focus ring back is something that gives Olympus a significant advantage over other manufacturers. Brilliant.

8. Included hood and lens pouch. I thought h*ll would freeze over before this would happen. It is getting colder recently.

9. On that topic; weather sealed.

Cons: (Minor)

1. The lens is not fully retracted at 12mm. It is actually fully retracted at 16mm. Thus, if you store with lens at 12mm, the front element is not completely against the body. I am not sure if this will impact durability over time as it is carried/stored.

2. The lens cap is huge (for Olympus). They needed to redesign the lens cap due to the hood but I feel it is too thick now.

3. The lens crashed my EM-5. The camera crashed when I first attached this lens. I am not sure if Olympus will issue a firmware update. It was interesting to find out the power lever on the EM-5 is software based; i.e., flipping it did not turn off the camera when it crashed.

4. Made in China, like iphones, ipads and most other electronics. I was hoping for Made in Japan.

Overall, a great lens and highly recommended for anyone looking for an all-around lens for the m43 system.

5This is not your average Zoom!
By NyArtboy
Honestly, what can I say about this lens that hasn't been already said? This lens has become for many reviewers and bloggers, either the Lens of the year or runner up. This lens has pro level IQ, amazingly fast AF and one of the most useful all around focal range for photography today. at 2x crop factor on m4/3 it behaves like a 24-80mm. It has nice bokeh and good DOF (Depth-of-field) at 35mm+ (70mm) and very sharp at 12mm (24mm) wide angle. Some sites have said that the 12mm f2 lens is slightly sharper but to me it's negligible. PLUS you get all this IQ and focal range in a weatherproof package! Pair that up with the OM-D EM-1 and you have an adventure waiting to happen!

Another question that pops up frequently on blog pages and review sites is the question between this and the high quality prime lenses out there for the m4/3 format. My opinion (just my 2 cents) is if you plan on shooting on nice bright days and don't want the hassle of changing lenses, then bottom line, this is your lens. On sunny/bright days you will end up stopping down the prime lenses anyway so you will get just the same amazing results especially if you pair this with an Olympus OM-D that adds in-body 5-point IS and Chromatic fixes in the software for this specific lens.

On the other hand, if you like to shoot in low light, have no problem switching lenses, and generally want the ability to achieve the maximum DOF (depth of field) you can get on the m/43 format than stick with primes. Though to be fair, the bokeh and DOF is perfectly fine for my taste on this lens at the higher focal lengths. Plus it has an amazingly short focusing distance so you can get pretty darn close to your subject which will increase the DOF as well.

If you are concerned with price, you shouldn't be. A lens of this quality at this price is an amazing deal. Here is my cost comparison/value break down:

If you bought the 12mm F2 and 45mm F1.8 you would be $200 above the cost of this lens (all brand new) and only have 2 focal lengths.
The equivalent price in primes would be the 17mm f1.8 and the 45mm f1.8 but you lose the nice wide angle 12mm focal length and gain possibly the "best portrait lens" for m4/3 cameras with nice creamy bokeh and sharp IQ.
To me the ideal prime set is the 12mm f2, 25mm f1.4 (Panasonic) and 45mm f1.8 which puts you at roughly $1800 give or take.
A nice f2.8 combo would be this lens (12-40mm f2.8 Pro) and the 60mm f2.8 macro giving you a fully capable system of varied focal lengths plus macro and medium telephoto capabilities all for about $1400.

Pros:
Extremely Sharp IQ corner to corner
Super-fast AF (I think faster then my L series lens tbh)
The best and most versatile focal lengths for everyday photography
Ability to get very close to subjects. Just a few inches in fact
Large Aperture for decent bokeh and DOF
Weather-proof!
All metal construction
MF 'choke' design for quick switching to Manual Focus mode
Includes a customizable L-FN button on lens for additional functionality.

Cons:
Big and somewhat heavy (though half the size of lets say the Canon 24-70mm f.28 L) - The size doesn't bother me in the least I have to add. Makes the E-M1 look pretty awesome.
Tube Extends during Zooming (would have liked the elements to stay within the lens, thought this would probably double the price)
Not the smoothest zoom and focus ring on the market. The other primes I have are way smoother. In fact there is small 'tap-like vibrations' when zooming. After speaking with Olympus directly they informed me this is normal operation.
Loses almost 2 stops compared to the primes available today for m4/3 format cameras.

I'm happy to answer questions posted here in Amazon. Good luck!

5Outstanding lens
By M. Gotts
I've owned Olympus' OM-D E-M5 camera body since Christmas 2012. Using the kit 12-50mm and the 40-150mm (24-100mm and 80-300mm 35mm equivalent) lenses I've had a fun year capturing photos. The camera has been everything I wanted it to be, with the exception of being just average tracking kids playing soccer.

But the 12-40mm f/2.8 lens takes the camera to a different level. I thought I was getting decent performance from the 12-50mm lens -- and I thought wrong. It's okay, for what it is, but it's slow (f/6.3 at 50mm) and just average in sharpness. With nothing to compare to, I didn't realize how it was holding back the E-M5's potential.

The 12-40 is truly top caliber. Sharp from corner to corner. Chromatic aberration cannot be found. Fast for extending the E-M5's low light capabilities at modest ISOs (I can gain nearly three stops from the 12-50mm in many situations). On the PC I'll zoom in on shots and be astonished by the crispness that simply didn't exist before.

Having never owned an expensive DSLR (I had a decent Nikon FE2 film body and some Vivitar Series I lenses in the 80's, however), I'd been lulled into thinking the images I was capturing were simply all that such a camera was capable of. The E-M5 is a very good micro four thirds body, after only the new E-M1. What difference could one lens make? Well, as it turns out, a great deal.

The 12-50mm has a smooth motor drive mode for video (which I rarely shoot) and a dedicated macro mode, which is nice. But the 12-40mm, while not being optimized for macro, turns out to be a fully capable macro lens as well, better than the 12-50, IMHO, because of its superior resolution and significantly faster performance and ability to isolate at f/2.8. The only step up for close up photography being to a dedicated macro lens. (And yes, I know that with regards to depth of field it is twice that of a full frame sensor. But f-stop is dimensionless, and with regards to light-gathering-per-sensor-size/exposure/ISO, f/2.8 is f/2.8 is f/2.8, whether it be APS, M43, full frame or a large format camera.)

The only thing I don't like is the price. $1,000 was a big chunk. But the way it has changed the performance of the E-M5 is truly revelatory. There really is a significant optical difference between a decent mainstream consumer lens and a pro level lens. The 12-40 lives on my camera now, and the 12-50 is going to end up on eBay.

If you've got the E-M5 or M1 and can afford it, this lens is a no brainer and will not dissappoint. Since the long end is only 80mm equivalent, I think even Lumix body owners can enjoy it's benefits despite not having the in-camera stabilization that Olympus bodies have.

5Really Impressed!
By berggie
I consider myself fairly competent at eliminating the bubbles that have appeared in every screen protector that I have applied over the years. I usually bought based on "recommendations" and price and found most of them to be adequate. When I was looking for a protector for my new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (some people are "Apple" junkies, I have my 3rd Kindle in 3 years... my grandsons love the "hand-me-downs"), I was impressed with the review for the Moshi iVisor and decided to pay what I thought was a fairly steep price and give it a try. It was a snap to install; there are no bubbles because there is no adhesive touching the glass. Assuming it lasts (I'll update this if I encounter any future problems) I can highly recommend this Screen Protector.

3Doesn't live up to its awesome looks.
By Joseph Zapert
I wanted to love this mouse. It looks great, is sleek and, because of its slender profile, slips easily into netbook sleeves. The touch surface is silky, but its looks set higher expectations than it can meet.

The particular shape ends up being uncomfortable. I'm a guy, but I'd say my hand size is average. My ring finger grips the thin, metal edge and this is a slightly-uncomfortable feeling that gets more annoying over time.

The click functions require more force than they should. Because of this, right-clicking is iffy. I'm a graphic designer and not an unskilled user, however I find myself left-clicking accidentally a lot. I also wish I could just lightly tap the surface to click, since the mouse has so many other touch gestures. That would help a lot.

Forget about soft surfaces. It's absolutely impossible, because clicking requires so much force. No mouseing on the couch or bed with this.

Touch gestures are iffy. Scrolling responds right away every time, which is nice, but there's little accuracy and it's hard to control the speed. Windows 8 edge swipes are okay, but require you to be careful to keep the mouse stationery while you swipe and that's not all that easy.

So sadly this awesome-looking mouse is going back. Maybe a really casual user, who never wants to use a soft surface, would appreciate it more.

5My new favorite mobile mouse!
By SPC Jung H. Choi
I purchased this mouse to replace the t620. When I purchased my Samsung Ativ 8, I was specifically looking for a bluetooth mouse but I tried several but ended up returning them back to the stores because they did not fit the bill for one reason or another. Some models I tested out were Razer Orochi, MS scuplt comfort, logitech V470, and the MS wedge. I was not pleased with any of them so I settled on the Logitech t620 which is not bluetooth. The t620 was quite neat with the touch gesture interface but it too did not quite fit the bill either. I was getting ready to replace the t620 with another g700 until I saw this mouse advertised on the Logitech website.

Three things quickly drew me to try this mouse: 1. Bluetooth connectivity 2. Gesture control like the t620 3. Its compactness. I've put this mouse hard to work for the last three days and it has definitly kept up with me. On a full charge, it lasted my entire 12 hour workday although the battery level showed at the half way mark at the end of the day. The good news is that from that point, it only takes about 5 minutes to fully charge the little thing. The quick charge is a good thing because you cannot use the mouse as it is charging like my g700. At worst case, I can fully charge this thing during a coffee or a bathroom break.

As far as asthetics and ergonomics, this mouse definitely requires some getting used to. This mouse combines metal and matte plastic top which gives it the look and feel of a much higher quality mouse versus the clunky cheap feel of the t620. I was already familiar with the gesture controls from my last mouse so that was no big issue there. One of the best features on this little thing is it's ability to be paired with two different devices and swith between them on the fly! How cool is that? One for my laptop, the other for my Note 10.1 tab.

In summary, for those of you out there who are gadget geeks like me and have to have the latest and greatest, this mouse definitly needs to be in you collection. I guarantee it will be a conversation piece in your office.

5A mouse that's truly an asset to the mobile work environment
By MChen
All in all, I highly recommend this mouse for all 'on-the-go' laptop users (both mac and pc loyalists) who are looking for a reliable, well built, ultra-portable mouse -with the added bonus of being able to control their two most-used bluetooth devices at a flick of a switch. I've owned this mouse for nearly 3 months now and think that its size and shape are perfect for my move-around work needs and the battery longevity allows me to worry less about accidentally running out of juice after forgetting to replace(in this case charge) the battery. As for comfort, Logitech did a great job focusing on the needs of the intended consumer demographic and created an 'ultra-thin' form factor geared for those who value portability over comfort...not for photoshop editors who really should stick with an ergo mouse meant for comfortable desk use.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those worried about the lower ratings stating functionality problems continue reading below, as I've seen that a majority of them are a result of poor pre-purchase research, a failure to follow the included directions, or simply thinking a new mouse should adapt to them rather than vice-versa.

From what I'm seeing about other users having line-by-line scrolling issues, horizontal scrolling issues, and touch functionality problems it is obvious to me that they ignored reading the instructions and did not install the Logitech Setpoint software.

Speed of scrolling is set standard to 3-lines. As a result the scrolling tends not to be as fluid as most people are used to when switching from an analog scroll wheel. This can easily be adjusted by changing the settings to the 1-line option under scroll settings. Inertial scrolling( what you experience with swiping on a touch device) is enabled as a default but can also be disabled if you wish/are used to using larger finger motions. As for touch functionality, I was also a little irked at first being unable to horizontally scroll while on an web browser but later realized that I also overlooked disabling the option that limits single finger horizontal touch to only browser back/forwards when on a web browser. I disabled this and can now easily horizontally scroll at all times with one finger touch and browser back/forward with two fingers.

Hope this over the top review shows how much this mouse has added to my mobile work, and as a result made me absolutely satisfied with this product.

4Great Air Conditioner, But...
By Dominick Fontana
I am reviewing the Frigidaire FRA086AT7 8,000 BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner. I am giving this AC a good review, but will mention a few things I didn't like about it. All of the complaints are minor, except for one, which was a problem for me, but might not be for you. I'll start with the background information, then list the features, and then list the good points and bad points.

Background Information:

This is a great AC with many features, good looks, digital display, remote control, and it cools the room very well. I'm using it installed in a window for my bedroom. Mine is 8,000 BTUs, but Frigidaire has similar models with different BTUs. It only comes in White. Even though it is described as "Mini Compact," it appears very sturdy and well-made and isn't really that small. Installation was a breeze because the unit weighs only about 50 lbs. It comes with the AC unit, a window installation kit, a nice manual, foam that you can put between the windows, and self-adhesive weatherstripping to cover any openings. All hardware is included. You just need a Phillips screwdriver to install it and a drill if you want to screw the top of the unit into your window. It is Energy-Star Compliant. The warranty is ONE YEAR Full Coverage and FIVE YEARS for the AC compressor.

Features:

* It has a green LED digital display with membrane button controls. You press buttons to control the unit. There are no knobs. Membrane means that all the buttons are covered by hard plastic and you press the label on the plastic that covers the buttons underneath. Each button press emits a beep, but if you hold the temperature/timer button down, it scrolls faster and only beeps once.

* It has buttons for On-Off, Mode, Fan Speed, Temp/Timer Up, Temp/Timer Down, Timer, Sleep, Filter Reset, and Clean Air.

* The Green Digital display shows the Temperature and Timer. Normally, when the unit is on Cool or Econ, it shows the temperature you have set, like a thermostat. However, when the fan only is on, it shows the actual temperature in the room. When you are setting the Timer, it displays the count-down timer.

* It has green LEDs for the 3 modes, the 4 fan speeds, whether the digital display is showing Fahrenheit, Centigrade, or Timer, Timer On, Sleep On, Filter Reset On, Clean Air On, and Remote Sensing On.

* You turn the unit on and off and it remembers your last settings. You press Mode to select from Cool, Econ, or Fan Only. Econ is Economy Mode that cycles the AC compressor on and off, once it reaches the set temperature, to conserve energy.

* Fan Speeds are Low, Med, High, so you have 3 speeds for both the AC and fan. The AC also has Auto Fan, which regulates the fan speed automatically for you. It comes on full blast when you first turn it on, then gradually lowers the fan speed as it reaches your desired temperature.

* The Up and Down buttons are used to set the temperature on the digital display. You can set it from 60 degrees to 90 degrees and display it as either Fahrenheit or Centigrade. These buttons are also used to set the Timer.

* The Timer button allows you to program the unit to either turn on or shut off one time over a 24 hour period.

* The Sleep button raises the temperature you have set by 2 degrees, one half hour after you activate it, and then by another 2 degrees, half an hour later. Then it keeps this temperature for the next 7 hours. It sounds more confusing than it is. Basically, you can activate the Sleep feature when you go to sleep. It assumes an 8-hour sleep cycle. So if you set the temperature for 72 degrees, then an hour after you go to sleep, it will be set for 76 degrees for the next 7 hours, and then go back to 72. The theory is that it you can fall asleep with the temperature you have set, and it can gradually get a bit warmer during the night, without it disturbing you, plus, it will prevent you from becoming too cold.

* Filter Reset has an LED that lights after every 250 hours of use. When it lights, it reminds you to clean the filter. After you clean it, you press the button to turn off the LED and reset it. Then it will remind you after the next 250 hours of use.

* Clean Air is a built-in Air Ionizer and Purifier. If you turn it on, it will automatically remove dust and impurities from the air while either the AC or fan is running.

* It has two separate air vent openings at the top that can be controlled independently.

* The enclosed remote (2 AAA batteries included) has an unlit LCD Display that shows the actual temperature at the remote, presumably that is where you are sitting. You can control everything from the remote, except the Filter Reset and the Clean Air Filter. A red LED blinks when you press a button. You can also turn Remote Sensing on and off from the remote. When it's on, a corresponding LED blinks on the AC unit to show it's activated. Normally, the unit controls the temperature, based on what the temperature is at the AC unit itself. When Remote Sensing is on, the unit then controls the temperature based on what the temperature is where the remote is located.

Good Points:

* Cools fast and extremely well.

* Very quiet.

* 6 foot long, 3-prong power cord, so you probably won't need an extension cord.

* Remembers your last settings, even if the unit is shut down due to a power failure.

* Auto Fan speed is very nice and is similar to digital climate control in a car, plus you have the other 3 manual fan speeds.

* Sleep feature is a nice touch to prevent you from getting too cold while sleeping.

* Reminds you when to clean the filter.

* Air ionizer is a good idea and makes you wonder, why didn't someone think of this before.

* Very attractive looking unit.

* Remote control adds a level of convenience, but it is the temperature display right on the remote that is an added bonus. Plus, having the unit control the temperature right where you are with the remote is very nice.

* Small and easy-to-remove air filter. It slides out from the top.

* Very energy efficient and the increase in my electric bill is much less than with other AC units I have owned.

Bad Points:

* Can't speak French. (Honeymooners' reference.) ;)

* It's slightly annoying that if the AC is on, you have to cycle it to Fan to display the actual temperature in the room, and then set it back to AC. There should have been a separate toggle button that would allow you to view either the temperature you set or the room temperature right on the AC unit itself. There is a temperature display on the remote, but when I am closer to the unit than the remote, I often use the unit to see what the temperature in the room is.

* The vent is always closed. It's the first AC unit that I've owned that strangely doesn't have a Vent Open and Vent Closed control. A number of my other ACs have Vent Open, Vent Closed, and Exhaust controls. It's not that big a deal, but with all of its other features, I wonder why this very basic control was left out.

* When you press a button on the unit, the beeps are very loud.

* For many people, the Timer feature will be a great thing, but I have been spoiled. The Frigidaire unit I am reviewing is replacing a Carrier AC that lasted me 21 years! The Carrier worked perfectly from 1988 until the end of summer 2009 and then it broke. I replaced it with this unit.

The Carrier was ahead of its time and it also had a timer. It was an analog timer, but it allowed you to turn the unit on or off, at hour intervals, as many times as you wanted over a 24 hour period. That might sound like overkill, but I would use it to turn the AC on one hour before I came home from work and then shut off 2 hours later, just in case there was some emergency and I didn't make it home right after work. Normally, I would come home, the room was nice and cool, and then I would turn the timer off. But just in case, I had the peace of mind knowing the AC would shut off in 2 hours, instead of staying on all night, if I didn't make it home.

You can't do that with the Frigidaire. You simply set a countdown timer and when it reaches zero, the unit will turn on, if it is off, or turn off, if it is on. Also, you have to set the timer every time you use it. With the Carrier, you could set the programmed times once, and then just turn the timer on when you wanted to activate it. Again, this is not that big of a deal and many people may not even use the Timer.

* The major drawback for me and the only thing that prevented me from giving the unit a 5-Star Rating was that the air-directional controls are absolutely horrible. I'm talking about the opening at the top of the unit where the air blows out from. I honestly can't understand how such a nice unit could be so deficient in this regard. They really missed the boat on this one.

All the ACs I've had over the years had very similar air-direction controls and they all worked great. Basically, they all had little handles, where you could rotate the vent flaps either left or right. Then there were also up/down flaps, where you could direct the air to blow upward. The bottom line is that you could control the direction of the air flow beautifully.

With the Frigidaire, they advertise it as 8-way air control. If you look at the picture you can see that you can control the left and right vents separately. So the left vent can be controlled left-right-up-down and that's 4 ways. Then the same for the right vent, makes 8 ways. Well, it sounds good on paper, but the vents simply do a bad job of controlling the direction of the air flow.

Each vent has a knob that you rotate to presumably control the left-right air flow. Then, you can also click each vent either up or down. Well, if you look at the picture you can see that a plastic rod with small plastic circles on it controls the left-right air flow. The problem is that these plastic circles don't go all the way to the top of the unit, so air ALWAYS blows straight ahead, no matter how you adjust the controls. If you adjust them full left and full right, some air will be directed left and right, but the majority of air will still blow straight ahead. To add insult to injury, the up/down controls are totally useless. They don't swivel, allowing you to position them at numerous up/down positions. There are only 2 positions. Straight ahead or you can click them up one notch, which raises them up about a quarter of an inch. They are useless because they only vary the up/down air flow by about 6 inches.

I made a big deal about this because I'm using it as a bedroom AC and it affects me when I'm sleeping. Truth be told, in most circumstances, the air-direction controls of an AC are not that big of a deal. If it's not used in a bedroom, or if it's installed high in a wall or even in a window that's not next to a bed, this should not create a problem for you.

However, as fate would have it, the unit is installed in a window located to the side of my bed. That's where the Carrier AC was installed and when I adjusted its vents, the air would blow upward and to the sides, so it NEVER blew directly on me while I was sleeping. With the Frigidaire unit, no matter what I try, the AC always blows directly on me while I am sleeping and I don't like that. So the bottom line is that this may not apply to you, but it's something you should be aware of. It's really quite annoying that I can't adjust this unit so it doesn't blow on me while I'm sleeping.

Conclusion:

This is a great unit and I highly recommend it, but with one reservation. You virtually cannot control the direction of air flow and it always blows straight ahead. Depending on your circumstances, this might not matter. However, if the unit will be installed in a window next to your bed or next to where you will be sitting, be aware that it will blow directly on you.

5Nice features, good price, 8000 BTU
By Chris
The best thing about this little AC unit is the "remote sensing" feature. It has a thermometer on the remote control and can use that as the input for the thermostat, set the remote in the middle of the room and it will keep it at an even temperature. It also has an "econo mode" setting and a "clean air" ionic air filter. It is small, relatively quiet, and the 8000 BTU's do a fantastic job keeping the place cool (it hardly ever runs in econo mode but still keeps it cold). This unit was only $10 more than the equivalent 6000 BTU Frigidaire unit.

5Great air conditioner! Here are the manuals
By Jeff Williams
Ok, I did my research before I bought this unit. It seems like the most bang for your buck. Amazon.com was VERY fast shipping this to me! I was shocked how fast.

The manufacturer claims that it uses only $59 of electricity a YEAR on average. We'll see. I haven't gotten the bill yet.

The unit has an ionizer and here's what I found about them:

"An air ionizer is a device that is intended to purify the air. As its name implies, instead of using fans and filters, an air ionizer creates ions which remove microscopic particles from the air. Rooms are healthier for those suffering from asthma, allergies, impaired immunity, or respiratory ailments, without as many allergens circulating in the lungs. Dust and mold collects inside heating and air conditioning ducts. Higher humidity inside allows bacteria to thrive. An air ionizer addresses these home and office sources of pollution and odor. The ozone that is created when negative ions are generated battles pollution by breaking it down into smaller, harmless components. Published research shows that high levels of negative ions are a useful treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder."

Then again, a new study conducted by Consumer Reports indicates that ionizers also create ozone that isn't good for you. So who knows? I've been using it.

Pros
* Cools great! Cooled my whole apartment!
* Remote control
* Can use the remote for sensing the temperature instead (nice)
* Easy to install (took me an hour)
* Has an ionizer on it
* Lots of features
* I personally love the sound of the fan. It sounds a lot like a really nice box fan. I sleep like a baby and it downs out the noise from outside since I'm off a busy street. (people pay a lot of money for white noise machines!)

Cons (not enough to deduct a star though)
* No option to use vent to bring in outside air (on the bright side, bugs can't get in through the unit)
* On energy saver mode, it only checks the temperature every 10 minutes (it got up to 80 degrees in here in-between 10 minute checks)
* You'll need weather sealing tape for the side panels (so little bugs don't come in the sides and cold air gets out)
* Smelled a little metallic at first (I think it's the lubrication inside the unit)

Please note: You will probably want to weatherize the room (or your place) the unit is in. This is very easy to do (I put "high density foam tape" around the doors and "clear weather sealing tape" where air could come in around the unit) and makes a huge difference. If hot air is coming in and cold air is getting out, then no normal air conditioner is going to seem good enough. Plus, you lose a lot of money on wasted electricity. That's pretty common sense. If I can do it, anyone can.

CHECK WITH YOUR ELECTRIC COMPANY! I was eligible for a $30 dollar rebate on my electric bill for buying this "green" unit. Every little bit helps!

I found all the specifications before I bought the unit and thought I would share:

5Handles All Your Odd shaped adapters
By R. Auger
Normally I don't review accessories such as these, but it really makes a huge difference with all the crazy different power adapters I have. If you think you don't, remember the chargers for your digital camera or NiMH AA charger.

Most modern compact battery chargers tend to fall out of most power sticks. For example, a AA charger or for your digital camera. Instead, you can angle them at 45 degrees so they will rest on the shelf or floor and not budge. Also, a portable wifi can also sit at an angle, rather than just popping out under its weight. The big adapters are additional supported by other cables that you may run horizontally. Check out the picture I posted to see what I mean.

Every other power stick would only have 1/3 of its plugs usable; not only that, but they would fall out too easily. Not with this belkin.

It actually handles a higher surge than many out there. I've simultaneously powered: my 17" Apple, 24" monitor, three externall hard drives, a monster stereo, a scanner, a printer, a wifi, an NiMH charger, and lithium battery charger, and even an electric razor. Works fanastic without a glitch.

Also shows you if its properly grounded and protected with indicator lights. Organizes wires and through a pop up loop. Protects the cable as well.

Only complaint: I wish the cord was maybe 5 feet longer. I hooked a high quality extension to it instead

most surge protectors list a joule rating, and sadly this product page didn't have one. i checked belkin's site and they didn't have one either!

luckily, i have a friend who works for them, and they let me know the spec. this wall mount protector has a 1080J rating.

hope this helps people.

1Bad power button, 4 defective ones in a row!
By M. Hindin
I bought 2 of these at full price (49 each) because of the great design and I thought it was very well thought out since the outlets are able to pivot! I thought I'd never need another power strip again after buying 2 of these since they can handle so many things being plugged in at once.

Within 1 month the problem started and unfortunately it is a big problem. The units would start turning off by themselves!
I have used a lot of power strips and surge protectors in the past and I have never had any problem with any before so I never thought this product would give me a problem.
It got to the point where as soon as you pushed down on the power button it would start making clicking sounds and turn off by it's self. Sometimes it shut down at random. This product turning off on my work computers coast me a lot of time and money.

I contacted the company and they sent another batch of these to replace the 2 that were causing the power to go out. The company told me it would not happen again and that mine were just defective. They would not refund my money and only sent more to me. The next 2 they sent me had the same problem within a month and now I'm writing this review to warn people it's not just a few that are defective and it is all of them.

There are a lot of positive reviews about this product but they all must only be from people that don't touch the power button often and just leave it on all the time. The more you push down the power button to turn on the power the more chance my situation will happen to you. The problem with it turning off has something to do with the power bottom being turned off and on.

I recommend a product with a flip switch instead of a button that may have faulty springs under the power switch or whatever is causing the problem I have experienced.

UPDATE: The last 2 they sent me again died. We are now up to 8 dead ones. I have not even bothered to send them back this time because it is pointless and newer and better products are out now.

4Perfect for students and business people
By Travis J. Hill
I have used these legal pads for taking notes in class for two years now. They are nice, because you don't have to deal with any of the annoyances that come with typical notepad paper, e.g., holes in the sheet, rough or uneven edges. However, this is a bad thing for those that like to put their notes into a three-ring binder.

The downside is, unless you are ok with having fold creases on your pages (folding it back over the pad), you will need to remove each sheet before moving on to the next one. It takes some practice to rip exactly on the perforation for a clean break, but once you get the feel for it, you'll get it 100%.

Sometimes professors require homework/formula sheets to be exactly 8 1/2" x 11". That's ok for these legal pads, because although it's listed as 8 1/2" x 11 1/2", once you remove the sheet at the perforation line, you will lose that extra 1/2 inch.

A major plus for these legal pads are the cardboard backings, because they can work as standalone tables on your lap. This is contrary to most notepads, which are flimsy and require a hard surface--especially when the paper is running low.

As for price, it's competitive with the market. Buy the 12-pack for extra value.

I recommend these pads for students or business people. Writers and artists may like to look elsewhere, because of the fold creases mentioned above and the difficulty in keeping your work private (no cover).

2The paper is fine; the backing is flimsy
By Matthew Frost
There is nothing wrong with the paper in these pads, that I've seen -- I tend to use legal pads by flipping back the pages, not tearing them out -- but the problem lies in the lack of any stiffness to the backing cardboard. It is thin and very flexible. If you're writing on a desk, fine. But if you're writing on your knee, or freestanding, you're going to have problems.

2beware the crumples!
By Cathryn Tallman-Evans
There are crumpled papers within each pad. This means you never have a flat, smooth, even surface. There are just enough problem pages in each pad to make problems for the whole pad, but not enough that you will give up and just toss the whole pad and order something else. I won't order this item again.
