4Good switch
By Mactire
Set up was a breeze, the switch has worked without a hitch. Will probably buy another if I expand my home network. Love the fanless design and power saving features. It runs very cool in my wiring closet. I bought this to replace a TrendNet device that was not working reliably, so it is a relief to have this in place. Caveat Emptor - Be advised that PoE is a feature on only half of the ports.

5Great switch Plan for the Brick!
By Rob
This is an amazing small office switch. It is great hybrid of enterprise options and consumer convenience. Its virtues are well documented elsewhere, but the details of the power cord are not:

I suspect they used a brick because if the transformer went inside the unit like in rack switches, it would also need a fan like rack switches. I'll take a brick over a gunked up fan any day, but you do need to plan for it.

The brick is near the middle of the cable. The power socket on the switch is proprietary, but the socket on the brick leading to the AC outlet accepts a standard, 3 prong power cord.

If you want to install your switch some distance away from outlet, especially above it like on a closet shelf, make sure you have a longer 3 prong cable or an extension on hand so the brick doesn't hang from the weaker part of the cord or sit somewhere awkward.

This sort of thing:

3Good Product, Bad Description
By William Hodges
No where in any descritption was it disclosed that only half the 24 ports were POE. That is right only 12 ports are POE. Everything else is fine but if you are looking for more than 12 POE ports look elsewhere...
