Getting There
By Nathan M Rochel
So after ordering not one, but two "genuine Samsung" MHL adapters for my Galaxy S3 and having the two of them function for a combined total of ~1.5 hrs before the flickering screen syndrome set in, i decided to try out he Allshare Dongle.
After being burned twice on questionable "genuine" products, I decided i would bite the bullet and try the allshare dongle. I just purchased a Pioneer Appradio2 and I am desperately wanting to use the app functions. I get everything hooked up, read the instructions and start the setup process. seams pretty straight forward, plug it in, wait for the blinking red light, hit the rest button and then search for allshare devices on my phone.
after 3-4 attempts the phone finally connected, and wal-a! I now have my phone screen on the big screen!
This is about where my excitement ends. The video quality is pretty good, there is a slight delay, but I can understand that you can't have instantaneous HD wireless streaming without a little lag, so I move on.
I decided to try out Pandora, and other music streaming. The audio quality sounds very bad. i would say it is comparable to standard AM radio, very "tinny" and virtually no bass. I then quickly remembered that I saw an update online that was supposed to vastly improve the audio quality. So i do some research and found that the "splash screen" (when your not connected to the device) states that the dongle has the latest LJ02 firmware... sigh if this is a vast improvement, the previous audio must have been non existent. So i try out some equalizer apps and try to get the sound quality into a more bearable state. it worked ok, but was still lacking bottom end.
After my not so stellar start I decided to try the device in my living room on the big screen. Made all the physical connections waited for the flashing red light and tried to connect. Here I run into yet another road block. since the allshare dongle uses wi-fi direct, it will enable the wi-fi on your phone to establish a connection to the dongle. Well once my phone enables the wi-fi to connect to the dongle, it also wants to connect to my home wi-fi, which, in turn, kills the allshare session... you can turn off the wifi on your phone to try and keep your phone from connecting to your local network, but then as soon as the allshare connection is established, my phone wants to connect to the local network... its a vicious loop. eventually after 5-6 attempts it stays connected, but i still have slightly laggy video, with tin can quality audio...
At this point I am at a loss for words. I really like my Galaxy S3, but Samsung decided to save $2-3 and forgo the micro HDMI in favor of a proprietary MHL connector (that i cant find a decent adapter for) and the allshare dongle that sets you back $75 so you can look at your still images on your TV.
EDIT: after reading through all of the reviews I tried the headphone trick (plugging in head phones to your phone with allshare active then unplugging them) and WOW did it make a difference. No more tin can. I will see how often i have to plug/unplug the headphones but the outlook is looking better, still haven't rectified the wi-fi issue.

Absolutely worth every penny - can take it with u anywhere - size of a smartphone!

Bought this on ebay for $50 open box - now on Amazon new for $57. I bought it for my new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet and it works great right out of the box. Just had to turn on "screen mirroring" on my tablet and it automatically searches and finds the device. Have to push the reset button on the back of the hub for the connection to be completed. So cool now anything on any of my Samsung devices can be mirrored on to ANY hdtv in a matter of minutes! Great product would highly recommend over cables!

Big letdown
By baf10
I have been waiting for this for months. Today I received it and am very disappointed.I bought it mainly to play games on my tv. Unfortunately this does not work with many games. Any games that move fast and have good graphics are useless for this device. I really wanted to play asphalt 7 and you cant with this as it cannot keep up with the fast changing hd graphics. Some games will not even open sometimes. Some videos shot on the camera also gave me problems. It works well for other things but not what I bought it for. I am sending it back.
