Second version of this basic printer
By Chelliep
Got the HP 1000 from Walmart on a closeout a few months back. My husband wanted one too so I was glad to see this model on special a few weeks ago..When we got the unit I took the new one and gave husband my old one, mainly because I print a lot more than he does. **READ THIS** Do NOT install the USB cord connecting the printer to the computer until you are done with everything else..follow the instructions and connect the USB cord LAST !! Also, you will save ink if you don't install any software that communicates with HP over the internet. As other posters mentioned, you need to buy a USB cord separately..the unit doesn't include the cord.. but that's OK.. The printer and the $5 cord add up to free shipping. Another thing I found different from the HP 1000 unit was the ink was harder to get into the machine. Just make sure you hear the "click" when you push the ink cartridge into the unit.
The HP 1000 had a better graphic on a sticker showing how to do that.. I don't print color very often so I set the option on Black Ink Grayscale. You can change this when you want to print color but mostly I print text and when I purchase something off the internet. This is a good basic stand alone printer..it doesn't hold much paper but it's easy enough to refill the paper slot. My daughter ordered one too and we are all happy with it.

Fantastic Little Printer
By W. C. Greer
I went through the color inkjet phase nearly 20 years ago, and abandoned it for just black and white.
Recently, someone gave me two nice all-in-one's, an Epson and a Canon, scanner, printer, (fax on the Epson), and here we go again, printer out of ink in the blink of an eye, clogged jets taking two complete ink sets ( multiple colors and black), fighting with this mess yet again.
As I was close to throwing these $200-$300 printers in the trash, I was told I should just try this printer. As I stood there looking at getting yet another refill 'set', I saw this for about $30 and thought 'it's cheaper than the set of refill ink cartridges', so why not.
And, WOW, it prints! I got this printer and a set of refill cartridges, thinking the ones that came with the printer would run out quickly, but they are still in there and printing just fine.
Sure, it does not have a scanner, and all that biz, if you're looking for a good, plain ole' printer, you cannot hardly go wrong with this.
Maybe I was just at the end of my rope with these other 'hi-tech' printers that just drove me to shear aggravation, that anything would be a welcome improvement. It seems things that just work without a lot of frustration is becoming more and more difficult to find.
I installed the printer, loaded the drivers from the CD, and it works. I've even printed a few photos that came out better looking than my hi-tech printers.
I hope HP continues to make this, and at this price point.
It is a inexpensive printer, and it's light as a feather, nothing hefty to it. The door is flimsy, etc., but hey,... it prints color and black & white, and does a pretty darn good job of it.

Great Printer for the price!
By P. Murphy
Terrific printer for everyday printing jobs. Not REAL speedy, but not real slow, either. Printing quality is good for black and white and color documents.
